So I made the foolish mistake of not getting the OEM skids on my Jeep when I bought it, now two months later, I am wishing I had gotten them. I went to the dealer and priced parts and installation, and it came to about $900. Does anyone know if there will be aftermarket alternatives? How hard is installation if I attempted myself?

I was able to install the Mopar skids myself (in the middle of a parking lot) in next to no time on an '05 KJ, can't think of why installation would be all that complex on a KK - so you should be able to do the install yourself

I agree with everyone except for the gas tank skid plate. This skid plate is more or less the same as the existing metal shield for the tank, but it's made of heavier gauge steel and has no large cut-outs. Installation of that one requires the installer to drop the gas tank - which requires drainage of fuel and disconnection of the fuel lines (and possibly the prop shaft - but I'm sure that could be avoided if you were careful). I installed the other skids myself with considerable ease. My dealership charged me $200 to install the gas tank skid. Hope that helps.

I built all my skids except the gastank one. I bought the factory one and I reinforced it with a 1/8 plate. I did install the gas tak skid my self and its a major PITA. You dont need to remove the drive shaft but you have to jack the jeep to get around 2' of clearance from the floor to tank. My stands will only lift 10'' + the 7'' of normal clearance I had to dig 6'' under the jeep   I managed to attach the plastic tank on the frame with a set of straps so I didnt have to unplug the lines but it was a pita and I really hope I wont have to do this again
