I noticed the tongue weight limit for '08 kk is 500 # and the tongue weight limit for "09 is 750 #. With both kk's setup the same (tow pkg, class III hitch, tires, ect. ) what is different on the '09 kk to increase the tongue weight limit.

The 09s got a suspension upgrade.Bigger axles,retuned springs and shocks,bigger anti-roll bar.

So are the parts from the '09 compatible with the '08? Or would I need to do some engineering to get them to function?

Just kind of curious because I do plan having a few "oops" moments in the future. Would be nice to be able to pull parts from other year models to replace the ones I screw up. That or I could just keep the messed up ones. Chicks dig scars, but do they dig dents?

What axle are they putting in them.

The difference is probably just new springs.

Tongue weight is the amount of weight that you can safetly put on the back of the Jeep(IE, hitch, in the vertical direction).

The axles also come into play when your talking about towing.I read somewhere that said next generation axle, but didnt say what it was.

The tongue weight is how much weight that is being placed on the ball of your hitch. According to the '08, that limit is 500#. The '09 is 750 #.

I am interested because I have been looking at buying a travel trailer and want to stay within the weight limits. There are some trailers that are under the towing weight limit of 5000 # but have a tongue weight of over 500 #, which is too heavy. I would be using the trailer for recreation as well as for work (I work nights and sleep during day). Because of sleeping during the day when used for work, I need a hard shelled trailer to reduce the noise.

Here are just 2 examples of trailers that have a tow weight within limits but I can't tow because the tongue weight is too much.

Dry Weight - 3940
Hitch Weight - 570

Dry Weight - 3780
Hitch Weight - 530

You could throw on some overload shocks, the one with the spring on the shocks. We used them on police cars because they had so much weight in the trunk that the cars would sag. With the overload shocks,it brought the suspension to normal height.

That is true, I could use the overload shocks or even air bags for when I tow. I just don't know how "legal" that would be having the tongue weight greater than what the owner’s manual says… even with adding helpers to the springs. I don't even know how relevant the tongue weight really is since the weight is stated in the owner’s manual but nothing on the door sticker where the weight limits are. I just know if I am towing a trailer and someone runs into me, I don't want to be the one getting the ticket just because I had too much tongue weight when the other individual was truly at fault.

You shouldn't worry with those shocks. They are like adding extra spring weight so you can keep your vehicle balanced with the trailer. If you did it stock it would have your front end in the air, that would be bad,but the shocks will give you the extra tongue weight you need.
