Post subject:  Brakes "crunching"?

Hi all... I finally got my internet connection established here in snowy Port Elgin, ON. It's been snowing here for a while now and I have noticed some sort of "crunching", almost metallic "springy" noise at times when applying the brakes sharply, mainly fromt the driver side, but I can't tell for sure if it's from both sides (as a test - it's not regular driving practice). To get a feel for the Jeep on the roads (this is my first winter with the Jeep) I was sharply pressing the brake pedal and trying to make it skid etc.

Has anyone else noticed a similar sort of thing? I did note that the ESP light came on at times, but not every time. And the ABS light has remained off every time, so I don't think it's the ABS kicking in.

Any thoughts?

if i had to guess, it does sound like the abs pump working to provide you both braking (abs) and your traction control (esp) and the lights may or may not come on
