Post subject:  KK steel bumper (finished)

Im building a steel bumper to mount my winch. So far I made this cardboard bumper for a test. What do you think about it.
The sides are not done yet and also the part that goes under the turn signal light but that already give a good idea of what it will look like
the winch will be monted on the bumper and not inside like arb

All opinions good or bad are welcome

there will be 2 shackle mounts in front. I might add holes on the sides for lights or mabe a bar over the winch if it looks good. the top part of the bumper will be a winch plate with fairlead mount. I will buy steel this week and start working on it. I expect it to be finished in 2 months depending on how much free time i get.

a hop ?? whats that

For real though it looks like it would a great addition to the KK.... AND a great reason to rip off the plastic front bumper!!!!

3/16 tick cardboard

at first I wanted to use 3/32 but going to 1/8 will add only about 10 pounds so it will be 1/8 all around except the winch plate 5/8 and frame mounts 1/2

wow thats definitely gonna be beefy, if you want to save some weight 1/4" is plenty for the winch plate and the frame mounts

We should all look up to this man as our founding forefather, of fabrication on the new KK.

"All hail" [[chant]]

Seriously though, I don't have the skills or materials, or workshop to do this kind of thing myself, but if I did, I'd be doing the same thing! More power to you sir!

Now I have to go ask around the metal shops/body shops about making me some bumpers... just to see what the prices are. (just curious)

Oh, and THANKS ALOT ARB! For not giving us any hope at all of making parts for our vehicles.

Looks like a good start but I'd be worried about hitting a rock dead center and breaking the powersteering cooler or worst yet the radiator without some kind of bar at the bottom to protect it.

looking good. it would be nice if someone produced some bumpers for the kk but with economy being so crappy i bet the aftermarket slows down to a crawl. im also not sure how many kk are actually on the road and if it worth it for a company to design anythig and put it into production.

Boblemoche, how much does that winch weight? how much is your bumper going to weight?

Here is a pic of my Trailready Front Bumper and Warn 8000i winch...for some ideas. This was my first Liberty 2002. This bumper with hoop was ~110#...turn signals were mounted behind the slots on each end of the bumper. 3/16" skin...1/4" elsewhere...thick shackles that passed thru the front skin...
