Post subject:  Light Bar Install UPDATE 2/21

As some of you may have read from a previous post, I'm installing a light bar designed for a Wrangler hood onto the front bumper of my Liberty. I got the mount itself installed the other day, no lights yet... I had to see how much room I'd have to work with behind the bar, so the depth of the light wouldn't hit the grill.

I'm leaning toward KC 124's.

Here is the light bar:

The lights I plan on using:

Some install pics:

Here it's just laying on the bumper. It's as far as possible against the grill, and the front mounting holes are NOT on the top flat part of the bumper. So, I have to move the mount back 'into' the grill area.

The two black dots with the holes drilled, are obviously the ones I used. The black dot with NO hole drilled is where the rear mounting hole would have been, but the front hole would not have been on the flat top portion of the bumper.

Grill and lights removed, so I could reach under the bumper and see what else I might be drilling into.

There is a black plastic support almost directly under the area where the holes will be drilled. I was able to use my drill like a router and make room, a Dremel would have been better... but I couldn't find mine. I needed to clear this area so I had room to install the bolt and also reach in and put the washers and nut on.

I flat out forgot to take a picture of what I had to do on the bracket itself, but you can sort of see in the next two pics what I did. I just cut a 'notch' off the bracket, next to the rear bolt, so it could slide under the grill. It was either that, or cut a notch in the plastic grill. I choose to cut the $35 metal bracket!
Here you can see how the rear bolt is now 'under' the grill.

And finally an installed shot. Hopefully I'll get some lights in a week or so, and have pics once they are mounted.

Other good news... It seems the headlights are a 2 piece housing, where the front clear section clips onto the rear reflector section and uses a gasket to seal the 2 pieces. If that's the case, you better believe I'll be spraying the INSIDE of the chrome housing with NightShades so all that is left is two round reflector sections for the main headlights and fog lights.... with a stock clear lens. 8)

If this is correct, please tell me so.... Ive always wanted to do this mod on my charger but I was afraid to bake my headlights (yes, you had to oven bake your headlights to pry the lens from the housing)
If the liberty's headlights are a 2 piece housing then I WILL add this to my list of mods:

Thanks for the kind words guys! Glad you like it.

I'm currently winning on eBay for the lights I want, wish me luck.

Those halo lights are pretty cool. Is it a whole new housing, or a kit that attaches to the factory housing?
I know all about baking the lights to 'break the seal.' I had a 1995 Mark VIII which are known for very poor headlight design, they would overheat and discolor on the inside. People tried all the time to take the housing apart and clean the inside, with various results getting a good seal when putting it back together.

I'll probably remove the grill and headlight housing again when I mount and wire the lights, I'll let ya'll know what I find.

That looks really good, I also was thinking of putting a Wrangler
light bar on, however I was looking at the more hoop " stinger"
looking light bar. However now that I have seen this, I think I really like the lower profile look. Awesome job !

Nope, it was these KC 124's. $82... not bad! :)

The price is just for the kit. you install them.... thats why I am asking if the headlights need to be baked or you can just snap them open... if they can be snapped open then a set of halos will be on my way =)

I noticed that before I bid, hopefully it will go ok. I should have asked for his phone number first, so I could call and ask a question or something, just to be sure the seller was "real"
