Ok, not really. But as of yesterday (first time I've had the windows down to notice it) morning, I am hearing a scratch scratch scratch sound coming from the right side, underneath the chassis. Can only hear it when you're near a curb, or wall (whatever reflects sound). It's metallic-sounding. Fairly loud. Anyone outside can hear it from 6-7ft away. It IS speed sensitive. The faster you go, the faster the sound goes. Volume however, never changes. Changing amount of throttle changes nothing. Applying brakes changes nothing. Turning hard right (abruptly) does make it 50% noisier, but only for a second. My good car-knowing neighbor is thinking either warped rotor or wheel bearing. Got any guesses? Jeep has appt. Saturday to be checked out. |

Alright nightdrv.... this is going to sound beyond strange...... BUT..... try this - it actually worked for me.... take your spare tire out and put it in your trunk... then drive. I had a similar situation awhile back - I thought it was a metallic sound, but realized it sounded like rubber on metal instead. took it to jeep, they couldn't find anything wrong. took my spare out one day - and the sidewall was actually "melted", or at least work via friction, it had been moving around a little bit (hence turning forces it to move more). My tire was hanging with the outside/finished side of the rim facing UP, after this, it is now facing DOWN, and the cable is able to tighten harder, thus stopping it from moving better. give it a try, and let me know. I have the full sized spare.. but... maybe doesn't matter? |

I appreciate the out-of-the-box idea..! I unfortunately have the super donut spare, but also have another full size spare on top. I would be taking this suggestion and acting on it, but the dealer has finally finished with it after 6 hours of looking. The results are: Nothing. Zip, Zilch, Nada. Yes, after 6 hours, they found nothing. They said they took it out for a drive over and over and couldn't reproduce the noise. I said, "ok, oh well." So got in the Jeep, and it "scratched" right away. Not even 10mph out of the garage. I promptly pulled a U-ey and walked right back in with a new attitude. They sent out the shop foreman who went on a ride with me around the dealership lot (a couple of laps) and said, "Oh, there's definately something wrong". I was like, "Yea, apparently YOUR mechanics did this already, and heard nothing.... So how do you think that could have happened..?!" He didn't have an answer, other than "let me take it in personally and pull it apart." So he did, and another 2 hours later he came back. ------------------------------------------------------ Still same noise. Then an epiphany dawned on them, and they pulled the calipers off. Right rear pads had a small rock that was somehow lodged in a space just below, and would rattle around, then get stuck (which is the cause of the noise), and then get unstuck... but never fall out (which is why it was intermittent). So, the Jeep is back to normal |

Not possible in a KK,the front bearings are a sealed unit bearing and the rear are lubed by the gear oil in the rear diff.Pretty hard to grease the bushings also since there is not one grease zerk under a KK,they would have to disassemble the suspension to grease the bushings, which would lead to early failure anyways.

warped rotor would give you pulsation in the brake pedal when you apply brakes. if you dont have it - your rotors are fine |

I second your notation, tjkj. For once, I actually agree with you. I just kind of nodded my head when they told me that. Like "..yea, I don't care.... as long as the noise is gone." Honestly I don't think they ever took it in to begin with. They probably drove it around, but just didn't listen for anything. I do know they took the RR brake assembly apart. And that's where the little rock was found. |
