Post subject:  Brake Lock Differentials....junk

So, I had the opportunity to screw around with my Jeep at the camp this weekend. April in NY means mud, and since I am not going to be able to have the ARB Locking Diff installed in the rear tomorrow, I thought I'd see if the BLD's performed better in mud than in snow.

Personally, I think they are useless. As soon as I got in a little mud, I lost traction.....I had to back up, and turn the wheel to get out.

So, I went and got my Polaris Ranger with the locking diff in the back and took it through the same mud....when right through without a hitch. Forward, backward, complete stop to start...no problem.

Can't say that I'm not a bit ticked off that a rinky-dink ATV on steriods can take me further down the road than a modified Liberty with A/T tires.

That and the fact your running "AT's" instead of MT's is another reason why.

I do most of my off road exploring on ATV. I ride with a guy who used to explore the deserts of Nevada and California with a group of Hummer H1 owners. He abandoned the H1 because he found that he was able to take an ATV through far more extreme terrain than his H1 was capable of. Plus he covered twice the miles in the same amount of time. Granted this is desert riding, and not mud, but I'll take an ATV over my liberty any day of the week!

There is a difference between a 7000lbs H1 and a 400lbs ATV.
