Post subject:  Rear window leaking

Ok so anyone who wants to flame away because of my posts in the E-brake boot thread be my guest, but.....

my rear window leaks in the rain or car wash or anything that puts water around the top of the window towards the center, mostly under the brake light area.

The wife is suppose to be taking it in, but she hasn't gotten around to doing so yet, it doesn't leak alot, just enough to have a drop roll down the rear window all that way.

Curious is anyone else has had ths problem at all. We only have 1200 miles and I noticed this right before 1000, at first I thought it was just from the HP carwash but then in normal rain it was doing it also.

I had that problem along with a leak at the drivers side column where it meets the headliner. THey fixed the leak on the rear window but I had to take it back for the column. It turned out to be the drain line from the sun roof had to be rerouted. This time I have been in downpours and no leaks have been detected.

I think others have had leaking issues due to some issue with the drain lines.

wingnuts-

I have the identical problem. I took it in once, and it did not solve the issue. I need to take it in again soon.

There is no damage that I can see to the seal or the window at all, that why I'm like what the hell.

Well the wife made an appointment to take it in Friday morning, will see what happens

yeah digger no damage to the seal or anything. I actually took it in and they said it was installed wrong, when they fixed it, the guy said you may notice that you have a harder time closing it. The opposite was actually true, because i used to have to slam the thing, but after they fixed it, it worked fine. Now I am back to slamming it and it is leaking.

Ok so is the seal coming off of the mounting "track"/ sagging... Is there any "wear pattern on the window... It just sounds strange that a compression seal like that is failing with out any damage

From the last time I looked at it, nothing visably wrong, no damage, not sagging, nothing it just doesn't make sense to me why it is leaking and thus the reason I wanted to know if anyone else having this problem.

To me the sky slider is one thing, but everyone has a rear window that opens up regardless of what your roof looks like.

My father in law was telling me that the position of the center brake light can cause an issue with rear window leaking, has somehting to do with the air flow around it and the way that it is mounted. He sold cars for 18 years and a similar center brake light like on the KK he saw problems like this all the time, but he really didn't have any specifics with what vehicles (he sold GM most of those years)

My back window had a leak down the center of it. The dealer replaced the seal all around the entire window....no more leak. Did that quite a few months ago. Hopefully that's the end of one of my problems :)

I had both problems... Driver's front pillar/top left of windshield leak, and the rear window/top center leak.

Front window leak was fixed by (dealer) removing front winshield and replacing whole seal. Rear leak was fixed by removing tail gate assembly and re-sealing (looks like clear caulking), and replacing rear rubber tail gate seal.

(according to dealer).

Rear started leaking at about 5k miles, front at about 6k. Am now over 10k, and no leaks yet. :)

OK wanted to bring this back up again.

1st time it went in they ordered a new seal and installed that, tested it and said it didn't leak.

Still Leaking when driving in the rain, took it back

2nd time they said they couldn't get it to leak with a garden hose but did notice water pooled in one spot on the seal so dealership adjusted the rear window, this solved that problem, tested again with hose and claimed no leaks.

Washed Jeep yesterday and looked at the rear window, no signs of leakage.

Wife driving to work today in the rain window is leaking again, worse than it ever has so far. So appointment has been made going back in On Wednesday to get looked at again.

I really love my KK and this is starting to get annoying.

Is everyone sure it really is the rear window itself leaking and not some weird thing like some drain line off your skyslider that has a hole in it up in your roof or something. I have no idea how the drains off the skyslider are routed, but suspect there are some since I've seen a schematic showing drain lines for the sunroof.

Just trying to help brainstorm any other possibilities.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah I wish it would point me in a different direction, but everytime the water drips roll all the way down the glass and when you open it up you can tell the entire face of the seal that contacts with the glass is wet

My rear window was leaking........x2. Both times they replaced the window stripping. I don't know if it's leaking still at this time. I havn't had a bad rain to test it. There is a TSB for it, so I'm thinking that it's not that uncommon. I don't have any holes in my roof, big or small so I don't think its a plugged drain tube.

my rear window weather strip likes to come off the lip bout 1/4 inch and it gets water behind the seat and water fandangos it's way in

my 3rd brake light also leaks

i fixed the weatherstrip leak, but sounds like.. maybe your window is not tightened down like it should/could be, is opening slightly allowing water between the seal? does it rattle or anything?

Ok so Jeep is still at the dealership, They contacted Chrysler and Chrysler wants them to put a different weatherstrip in, turns out the first one to repair the issue has a problem also.

They could get it by 10 today, so the wife just left the KK there overnight to get installed today and then pick it up.

we are over 2500 miles now too so why not get a free oil change as long as it is there,

will have to wait and see what happens now with the seal
