Post subject:  Why did you ...

... get your Liberty?

I think this could be a cool topic ... Why did you get your 08-09 Jeep Liberty?

Did you test drive other vehicles? Did you own a Jeep (or earlier model Liberty) before and just want another? Was it for the price? What made you get your 08-09 Jeep Liberty ...

Because:

I was trying to get out of a lease on an 08 VW GTI (best car ever owned so far, btw). I originally was looking at used Wranglers. But they were too expensive. Looked next at used KJ's. But no dealer wanted to take on my brand new GTI that wasn't paid down enough, yet. Then, went to look at brand new Wranglers, but all would've been too expensive in the end. Then, the dealer came up with the new Liberty. A low-optioned model made my payments cheaper than the GTI's by $24, and I get to keep it when I'm done paying. It only worked 'cause I got tons of different discounts for this and that, plus they took an awful lot off the sticker.

"Oh well, it'll work" I said.

I'm 6'6" which limits my selection of cars right off the bat.

I was looking into used Hemi Magnums, but I always wanted a 4WD SUV to play around with. I never ever ever never ever considered a Liberty till I saw the 08's at the Chicago Auto Show. I rode in a Wrangler on the little test track they has set up and was hooked! I do a TON of highway driving, and the interior of the Wrangler actually is more cramped for me then the Liberty... so the Liberty made more sense over a Wrangler.

Only other vehicle I considered was a Colorado, but I refuse to own a vehicle with a column shift, and you can't get the new ones with the 5-cyl and manual trans... so screw that. Even if the automatic shifter was on the floor, I would have considered it. (I very much prefer manual transmissions)

Getting the REAL employee discount from my brother-in-law's mother who works for Chrysler in Detroit also helped the decision. 8)

I needed an suv that is good as a daly driver (30k miles a year ) and can be taken offroad (not like the boring mazda tribute I traded) so I considered nissan xterra, toy fj cruiser, liberty and wrangler. the nissan and toy were too expensive when properly eqquiped , the 2 door wrangler is not practical and I just dont like the 4 door wranglers. they look like limousines :?

When I bought the libby , I never thought I would modify it that much so now im glad I bought a KK since I will end up with a very unique rig and not a one in a million jk on 35's

Skyslider
I am tall and this worked better..

Added info...

A family member got one, we drove it and loved it.

Then we went to our dealer and found a nice rig and got9K off the sticker and zero %. SO we had to.

I also wanted a 4X4 badly...

New it need to get driven and get the MPG up to 20 or higher...
that is next trick.. this 15 MPG suck and we baby the darn thing...

Well I wanted a 4x4, but we didn't need a forth truck in the family... I started to look at Nitros and FJ's. The FJ went out the window due to the price and the blind spots. The nitro went out because of the Tcase. I never test drove a KK or KA since the KK were very hard to find when I ordered mine

I'm sure that you all heard about the wicked ice storm we had in the northeast last winter. That was when I decided a Honda civic was not going to cut it for me anymore.

I had 4 weeks of vacation starting on December 13. I figured I would use the time to get a new ride. On the first day it was yet another snowstorm. I went to the Honda dealer. The saleslady spent 45 minutes cleaning off a new CRV. I drove it and brought it back.

On the way home I stopped at the local Jeep dealer. The sales lady asked me what I might be interested in. I replied that I need something that goes through everything mother nature sends at us and fit my four kids in. The wrangler wasn't going to cut it and the Grand Cherokee was more than I wanted to spend.

Drove the Liberty 2 miles to my house and then back and knew that was the ride for me.

I had an 03 Corolla that had 115,000 on it (baby for a Toyota) but the check engine light would come on randomly. I'd get the code cleared and it'd come on again with no explanation. I just put 500 into it with new belts and hoses, were due for new tires and brakes within a year and really didn't want to dump any kind of money into it. Had a mechanic friend clear the light for me, and started looking. Originally looking at light duty pick ups like a Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, Dodge Dakota. Liked the Colorado, but couldnt find a dealership that wanted to play ball my way, Ford let 5 salesman let me look at a truck for 30 minutes before sending someone to ask if I might be interested in looking at a new truck so gave them a pass. (Good thing based on what I have read about trying to service Fords sometimes) So I drove down the road to look at a Dodge Dakota. Didnt like the look of it so the salesman asked what I was looking for. I was looking at crew cabs anyway. He suggesed the 2008 Liberty. He had a used low-mileage 08 on the lot, and wanted me to drive it. I had driven an 04 Liberty and didnt care for the ride so I was sketchy on it at first. Took the 08 out and LOVED IT! After some "ummms and ohhhs i forgot about this" from the salesman and I walked across to street to sonic while he made up his mind on my offer - he drove it across the street with his manager, bought us a round of slushes, signed the paperwork.

My wife and I had 3 PT Cruisers between us since 2002. They were a good fit for us and we liked them a lot. Then in September I won a trip to a Rod Hall offroad driving school. They had 6 H3s and 6 Libertys there and we got to drive all of them. I liked them all but came back wanting a Hummer. I was working for a Chrysler dealership at the time and after talking to fellow employees and considering the H3's gas mileage I thought the Libby might be the better way to go. And since I worked at a dealership I could get parts at 10% over cost. The next day as I was driving onto the lot there was a car hauler unloading cars the used car manager had bought the day before at a Chrysler auction. The first one off was an 08 Libby in Red Rock. It was mine the next day. I traded my 06 PT and my wife has her GT convertible so we're covered no matter how good or bad the weather is. Although, the first time she took the Libby to go shopping, she came back and thought maybe it would be her Jeep. But we worked that out. :D

Not downing your choice at all......

But wow! If I had been given the choice between any Jeep (minus the new Rubi's) and an H3... It would've been a 2-second decision while I checked my pockets for space. ....For the H3 key to go. :)

I would guess it is a story that took about 9-10 months to develope.

I had a Suzuki Forenza and the wife's Mazda 3i ( we loved the Mazda, Suzuki on the other hand) Alright so we saw the new liberty's at the Chicago auto show and really liked em, was never really fond of the KJs was always too much of a "girl" vehicle if you ask me.

Alright so I'm way upside down in the Suzuki and I want to get out of it, it is depriciating faster than I can make the payments so it will never work out. We go to the local dealership (Zeilger for those of you in the Chicago area) We try to work a deal with looking at a New KK, but the numbers just aren't there so they have me test drive a used 07 KJ sport. This thing is kinda cool, I can have fun in this, plus it has 4x4 and I can tow with it( thinking long term here). So I buy the KJ.

I start a new job a few months later and then right about the first of the year I ask the wife, hey what do you think we get rid of your car and just keep the KJ because I get a car for work and we don't exactly need 3 cars in the driveway that only has room for 2 to begin with. Not to mention it would free up some money so we can pay off some other bills and get working on this debt thing.

The wife thinks about it and she says how about we get rid of the KJ and my car and get a new liberty. (Keep in mind she loves the Mazda and I like it too, great little car, but absolutly hates the KJ, one of the big factors is the buffeting) So we go back to Ziegler's, we test drive an 09 pre-owned sport, man it drives nice, the interior is great, and we both like the styling, always liked the KK more than the KJ. After we drive it we start talking numbers ( trying to trade in both the KJ and the Mazda) not really happy with the trade amounts and they won't even let us fill out a credit app because they are like no one will finance you. SO I'm like if you don't want to work with us you obviously don't need to sell cars, even told us both of our trades are prestine and would require nothing more than a good wax job for them to sell them, we are going to leave, and they told us, goodbye. ( we were there a hole 20 minutes and this included the test drive time)

The wife and I debate about it and start looking online for 09 KKs at other dealerships that have what we are looking for. Finally find one make osme time to go and it was a 4-5 hour evening at the dealership, but we traded my KJ, brought the KK home along with the Mazda and put the Mazda up on auto trader and craigslist, we sold the Mazda one week before payment was due on the KK. So all in all it worked out, never had to make 2 car payments in the same month after getting the KK and man let me tell you I love this thing. I want to mod it like there is no tomorrow and really looking forward to our trip out to NH in July to go visit some friends and deliever a snowmobile, towing it out with us as a favor. Can't wait to see how it does on the trip.

Long story short:
I wanted a wrangler sahara unlimited..... my brother wanted a KK... We went to the dealer and to my surprise the overhead sound bar of the wrangler was a PITA because my head does not clear this soundbar.... (Im 6,4" feet)
So I checked the KK and was a perfect fit!

My KK looks more to my old 1999 Cherokee so i bought it.
I also got the 2.8L CRD as the 3.7L would eat fuel like crazy. Prize of fuel=0.96 eyro/lt

We needed a 4x4 that would handle going off road everyday and it was $10K cheaper than the wrangler with the same options.

We were going to buy a used 08 Black Nitro base model with 12000 miles and when going to sign the papers on the nitro I decided to stop at a local Chrysler used dealership and see what they had on the lot.

Right there on the "show room"" floor was an 08 Liberty limited with sunslider (4100 miles and we would be the first owners). I talked to the sales man and we were acctually in the nitro, told him the deal and he went and talked to the manager.

Longer story short he droped the liberty from 30k to 24k and gave us 4500 more for our trade in if we would take the jeep that day.

We paid less for the optioned liberty than we would have for the nitro and we got the lifetime powertrain warrenty. I love the jeep but I love my 09 Wrangler Unlimited.
