So I was browsing on www.jeep.co.uk to compare how cheaper (or expensive) is their cherokee compared to our libertys.... (just fyi they pay 40k AND thats before taxes, but you get a CRD http://www.jeep.co.uk/pdf/cherokee_brochure.pdf Its quite interesting the line of accesories they offer for the KK and AFIK they dont offer any of those in here! Im curious to know EXACTLY whats the LED daytime running lights are for and where do they mount them. IM ALSO DYING TO GET some of those illuminated entry panels..... BAck when I had my charger, I installed a pair of those (of course, it came the word CHARGER on red leds) AND LOOKED AWESOME @ NIGHT. Imagine a set of these babys with the word JEEP Illuminated on jeep green?.... man Id kill for that! Sorry if I have not been around, but as I posted before Ive had my handfull....Thank GOD that things are starting to settle.... Except for the wedding... man... THAT IS exhausting! Well Im off to bed, Id like to sleep a little (Its a sin to wake up early on a sunday Best regards SilverKK09 |

I'm surprised the KK's don't have daytime running lights, I usually turn on my fogs when I'm driving around town for the extra safety. |

??? I'm confused.... not that I've ever gotten out of the liberty while driving - but.... when I start the jeep in the morning in my garage.... lights do come on shining against the garage wall. Maybe a "feature" of the ltd? |

If you Remote Start your truck your headlights will come on but once you put the key in the ignition they will turn off. |

Well THAT explains it. I wonder if the DRL is simply a function of the computer, that they'd just have to activate on a US model? Or would there be extra hardware required for the DRL that you don't have yet. I sure would like to get those leather wrapped trim peices the 09 ltd. has though, they look way better (and I imagine feel way better) than the 08's plastic carp. |

To my knowledge, DRL's on us spec KK's can not be activated. Most of the time, dealers can turn this option on using the a scan tool, How ever they are limited as to what can and can't be changed. Their are 3 levels of access that are built in to a pcm. The first level is what ever a consumer can change by his or her self such as the horn honking or not honking when the security system is turned on or programing a third or forth key if the first two factory keys are in hand. The second level is dealer based. At this level, items such as DRL's fog lamps and auto adjust mirrors are turned on by the dealer. Dealers also have the ability to flash pcms with new info. Finally, the third level is manufacture based. This includes all of the vital software need to run the vehicle.. So to summarize every thing, DRL's can only be turned on at the factory. Any thing to add Scar0? |

Explaination: Operation of the DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) is a function that occurs via the CAN bus. There is not external module for DRL's and is a function that is performed within the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module.) Vehicles equipped with the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) feature illuminate the high beam filament of both headlamp bulbs at a reduced intensity when the engine is running, the parking brake is released, the headlamps are turned OFF, and the optional automatic transmission gear selector lever is in any position except PARK. The park lamps may be ON or OFF for DRL to operate. For vehicles with a manual transmission, the DRL will operate in any transmission gear selector lever position. The TIPM must be programmed appropriately for this feature to be enabled. Once enabled, anytime the TIPM receives electronic messages over the CAN data bus from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating the engine is running, from the ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) (also known as the Cab Compartment Node/CCN) indicating the status of the left (lighting) multi-function switch is in any position except headlamps ON and the parking brake lever is released, and from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) indicating the automatic transmission gear selector lever is in any position except PARK, the TIPM provides a pulse width modulated voltage output to the headlamp high beam bulb filaments through high side drivers on the right and left high beam feed circuits to produce illumination at a reduced intensity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can it be done? If you want DRL's enabled, the DRL's get turned on by re-writing the software for the Build Configuration, by switching the country code to Canada. This is downloaded to the StarSCAN and the vehicle computer is FLASH reprogrammed. However there is no turning back. In other words once the DRL are on, They are on forever. There have been several Nitro owners who wanted them on, several who have them on, and don't want them. If it is on, your stuck with it. If you want them on, it can be done... at the right dealer/service department. |

This was a very hot topic for quite a while. I did a ton of research on it. I considered doing it, but I didn't like the No turning back Part. Not to mention the KMph Vs. Mph switch on the spedo. It can be changed, but it is just another reprogramming needed. |

I considered doing it, but I didn't like the No turning back Part. Yeah. I remember that... that was a long time ago, I think that was before HVN cut up his pinch welds... NT must have turned gray with all of the pm he got |

It still gets asked about now and then. NT just stopped answering, except in posts. I have learned so much about my ride over there. It is a very valuable resource. |
