Post subject:  Finally! My first offroad trip with the KK =)

So I did it! today we went to the mountain (some friends and my fiance) to have lunch in there (we currently are in Monterrey Mexico and there is this awesome place for offroading called "Potrero Redondo"
I Have to give Kudos to the KK for handling super AWESOME on river crossings, rock climbing (not hardcore type) and general offroading.

KUDOS TO HDC!!!!

I learned a few things:
18" wheels are not good for off road (I scratched them, but Im sure they will buff out)
Running boards SUCK when offroading (I know they are not designed for this but they were used like rocksliders, not intentionally though)
MUD FLAPS SUPER SUCK when offroading (I broke one of my mudflaps when crossing the river)
SKID PLATE GROUPS SUPER ROCKS!!!! (I could hear rocks hitting them...... but I knew I was safe because they were there! I just love them!)
I learned that the keyfob is waterproof (we did some hiking and fell on the river, it was great!!! I even had a little swim... But then I remembered: MY KEYS!!! I thought it was busted! but to my surprise it worked! Then I opened it to check for water and to my surprise it forms a real tight seal around the edge!)

Im a little worried though: I drove uphill on 4lo transmission (set in drive) and my temp gauge raised in between maximum (H) and the normal position (middle) This drive lasted about 20 minutes.... the fan was like crazy and I stooped to pop the hood and let her chill... I noticed some anti freeze sports by the heat sink of the AEM intake......... What do you guys think about this behavior? I have to admit though, it was HELL! the outside temperature was between 100F and 110F.... it was crazy hot.

I took some pics, and some video! Ill post them tomorrow!!! Im going to sleep right now, Im very tired!!!
have a good one guys
Happy Independence day!

Wouldn't worry about the coolant. The seal on the over flow tank is not that tight. Also for you auto guys, Keep it in first if you are going to be doing a lot in 4lo in temps like that or on severe trails

4wd Auto will get you through just about anything. 4wd low is good for steep hill climbs at low speeds. You don't want to do too much "driving" in 4low.

you hardcore jeeping fans might laugh, but I had fun
Remember that my kk is bone stock (except for the intake, but otherwise stock)
what do you guys think?

Yeah, it looked like it

the not so fun part is that I did a little damage to my side step and mudflap, but then again, as I mentioned before, its not a good idea to have those while offroading. I guess that some carnage has to come up when offroading :S

Is it really a river crossing if you don't get to the other side? JK just messin with ya, looks good.

Although I do like this KK video that youtube had on the side bar, might want to turn the volume down though.

I assume that you do not have the heavy duty cooling system? We have temps here of 105 or more quite often in the summer and I use 4x4 Low quite a bit. I've never seen the temp gauge go above the normal midway mark.

In fact, I was out at one of our transmitter sites last week. It was about 107, and very sandy going to the site. I was in 4X4 Low and no problems at all. I even had to pull a full size Chevy van out, that had gotten buried up to the bumper in the sand, no problems at all.
