Well, shoot! 0331 cracked head problem? If you don't catch that it will kill your 4.0 in short order. Otherwise, the engine is pretty bulletproof.

Nope not a 0331 cracked head, her's is a 94 Grand Cherokee.
I found a popped heater hose right at the front clamp. That was the cause of the over heat.
Compression test showed (front to rear) 30, 35, 0, 0, 55, no-test . I also found water droplets inside # 3 cylinder.
No oil in the water and no water in the oil.
Junk yard engine is in the trailer, waiting for me to get the old one out. Replacement engine is also a 94.
Still deciding if I want to do work on the junk yard engine, or if I should just drop it in there and be done with it.
We only paid $450 for the Cherokee + about $300 to get it road worthy in 2009. It was quite the deal.

Bought my soon-to-be Mrs a 2005 LJ Rubicon Sahara. Close to 200k mi but no major frame rusting (just surface level, easy to fix up).

Looks good Nick! I love LJs. Stick or auto? Be careful of the body mounts and the frame, specifically by the rear wheels and coils. Oh and not sure about LJs but TJ gas tank skid/holders kick the bucket too.

Scar0, depending on how clean the body is and how the tranny is, it might pay to rebuild the 4.0 and extend the life of the Jeep. Sure might be beater car prices, but if there's plans of keeping it, a rebuild will pay off. Might even be able to do a little motor work for the price of a rebuild (stroker kits make quite a bit more power, just not sure of the cost).

It's an auto, planned on ordering a Savvy aluminum gas tank skid for the rear very shortly (going to use only aluminum armor for this build haha). There's only surface rust and no frame rotting, a little sanding/brushing to remove the rust and some primer and paint and it'll be good to go!

So I've started acquiring some metal working tools the last couple weeks. So far I got an angle grinder, welding table, and welder (not an expensive one... just something to learn on for now). Hoping to add a tube bender at some point (Harbor freight sells one with decent reviews for not that much) and some kind of better metal cutting device haha. The angle grinder does good but I cannot imagine trying to cut steel plate with it. That would take forever. I know a plasma cutter would work great but I do not have the $$$ for that.

My first real project is probably gonna be some kind of a cargo basket for my service jack and some tools I keep in the back of the Jeep. Gonna use an old bed frame I've had in my basement for a couple years. Then once my welds are real nice and purty I'm gonna try to build some rock sliders. :JEEPIN:

Not bad! Oh I forgot watch the front fenders. They like to rust out over the tire where the hood sits. Anyways should be comfortable with that 4-speed. It's the same one as ours. Looks about 4" and 33s? Not too bad with the 4.10s I bet. My sisters TJ isn't too bad around town (up to 30mph or so) with 31s, 3.21s and 3 speed auto. Building a TJ/LJ is gonna spoil you. So much aftermarket support... Nice color btw, my friend has a TJ that color. Keep it clean and it'll always stand out.

In other news I'm seriously considering buying a AR-15...

Not sure how long we will keep it. So I just did a junk yard engine swap. Kept the good stuff off the original engine and replaced the; timing chain, front and rear seals, water pump, T-stat, manifold gaskets, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, hoses, and serp belt, then called it good.
No real time for a full rebuild/build as she needs it for work and collage.
Body wise it is in great shape, but it has the paint peel issue on the front of the roof...
Trany is OK. New Rad and P/S pump in 09, new brakes last year.
Putting the final touches on it tomorrow and then the test drive if I get it done.

Got it done finally! It's been together for a few days now, but I was having issues with high Temps, so I thought... :dizzy: As it turns out I was sold the wrong temp sensor. Which was making it look like it was running hot but in reality it was just fine! :banghead:
2 different temp thermostats, and 6 stat cover gaskets later :banghead: :banghead: , I pulled the sensor and replaced it. BAM!, temp was dead on.
The junk yard engine is in pretty good shape and runs like a champ.

Congrats on your successful engine swap, Scar0! It is always nice to see a dependable old Jeep live again. I have a soft spot for Cherokees anyway. My first Jeep. :D

Can someone tell my WTH this hose goes to :?:
When I bought my KK it was sitting on top of the reservoir tank. I have also seen some pictures of KK's for sale from dealerships and the same hose is laying on top of the reservoir tanks as well.

Oh and why is this site so dang slow?!
It's been like that for the last 2-3 days. All day and all night.

I get a "transferring data" from http://www.lostjeeps.com wait message, then another wait for activate.tapatalk.com, then another for badges.fuelly.com, and yet another for scontent-nrt1-1.xx.fbcdn.net, Then another one from images.tapatalk-cdn.com
If the web page has not timed out by then, it finally connects.

It took 15 minutes to post and edit this message 2 times. It's crazy! :dizzy:

NOOOOooooooo!!!!!! :grim:

So the junkyard engine was bad... Did they warranty the engine so you can exchange it? (Of course it sucks to have done all that work to install it too, now just to do it again. Or are you planning to cut your losses and sell it?)

This time it was 150 miles from home. I got it back with my dad's PU and trailer last night.
Will do some diag on it more now that it's home. Then we will go from there...
No mention of a warranty when I got the engine. Sooo, I'll do some Diag and then call them to see if they will do anything for me.

I may have to stop coming here for a while. It took forever to get here to reply.
I was able to go into the house from my office, get a soda, and walk back. Then the reply window came up.
Is it just me?
I cleared DNS, cleared all cache, cookies and history, I even got a new IP.
If it weren't for firefox I would not even be able to get here. IE times out every time.
