Post subject:  CB Antenna Mounting on KK?

For LJS '09, I rushed and bought a magnetic mount CB antenna. Before next summer, I want to have a more permanent CB antenna mount where the antenna can't be knocked off by low tree branches or overhanging rocks. Looking at all the KJs at LJS '09, it was probably most common to have a little bracket of some sort coming off the inside of a rear taillight and on the back of the KJ ... but the KJ's rear door opens sideways, not upwards like on our KKs.

Has anyone installed a "permanent" CB antenna mount on their KK, and if so, can you please provide some info or ideas? Personally, I don't want or need a CB antenna very often, so personally, I'd envision just installing the antenna and attaching the cable when I go wheeling. If a cool aftermarket roof rack was available (hint, hint  ), I could see just having a tab at the back of it to mount the CB antenna to.

You could be the first to do what TokyoeJoe, AdamisAdam and I have done. We replaced the stock radio antenna with a CB one and use it for radio and CB functions. They reused the stock radio antenna mount, and I put on an aftermarket ball mount. Mine works great and as far as I know, theirs do as well.

Inc, thanks for the suggestion and interesting idea, but here's where the antenna is mounted on a stock KK (top of roof at the back):

This photo was taken the day I brought my KK home and thus is before I installed my lift and larger tires. Thus, now I don't have much clearance from the top of this OEM antenna to my garage opening, so I don't think I could change my OEM antenna to anything taller (and still fit in my garage at home or work without destroying stuff).

Any other ideas?

It's a pain typing on an iPhone anyway. I got a firestik and a firestik door jamb mount I mounted it to the back off my kk on the rear gate I have no paint scratching issues with the gate being closed it came with crappy screws so I used bolts insted. Since the garage is an issue you could buy a Wilson flex and ziptie to your roof rail when not in use. I can take pictures but cannot post due to the fact I have an iPhone but I can email them so if you want to pm me your email I'll send you a couple.

If you don't understand why typing with the iPhone is a pain this is why it uses auto correct and half the time it's wrong also it's really hard to read what you all at once on thr forum. If you still don't understand everything I have written in this post due some cb reasearch.

If my iPhone post really bother everyone feel free to call Dell and tell them they take to long to repair crap.

Sorry to change the topic here.
What is with the wire wrapped around the antenna? Is that something to do with satalite radio or just an 09 thing?

Maybe it was how they fixed the crappy reception on the 08 radios...???

Worst reception ever!!! The country station doesn't stay when I'm in the city, At all... The rest, just kind of suck. very static.

the wire that's you see around the antenna is the antenna itself. Obviously that antenna is nowhere near long enough for the FM band, much less the AM band. They take a piece of wire and wind/wrap it up like that to make it shorter and more aesthetic. Those antennas aren't really very good antennas, but they work, so long as you have a strong radio signal.

Don't get me wrong, I listen to EVERYTHING. I get bored with the same music all the time. I'm pretty sure I have ADD... So is everyone else. I guess it was meant to be though, cuz that's my initials. lol. I joke that my parents had it in for me. (joke... )

I hardly listen to the radio anymore. My zune has something like 1500 songs, 7 movies, and I dont' know how many podcasts on it last time I checked. I don't think I can ever listen to everything on that.

But the radio is used for traffic, and weather updates. So, sometimes I do need it, its just not always there when I do.

Mine was built on 4/1/08 (no joke) and it has the spiral wrap. Probably a running production change.

MtnLuvr,
I am going to be hooking up the wiring harness for the tow hitch this weekend so while I have the rear taillights off, I am going to try to install an antenna mount from the left rear taillight. Even though our back hatch opens up I think there will be enough clearance as long as the bracket is attached very near the corner or the vehicle.

If that fails then I am going to bracket it to the roof rails with one of those swivel brackets so it can be placed at about a 45 degree angle most of the time on the trails.

I'll post pics of whatever I end up with.
Then of course the part of figuring out where to place the radio :)
