I have been about 1/2 done with a tech writeup for
this for about 2 weeks now but just
haven't had time to finish it
I'll post a picture though tonight.

FYI it is the firestik doorjam mount used in the
left taillight instead of a doorjam.
Works great but it would catch fewer trees
if it was nearer the center of the jeep.

Here are a few pics. Let me know if you have any questions.

I did the radio install in a hurry so it is not actually attached to anything. Just held in by the handy strap.

Sorry about the dark photos. I'll take more in the daytime if needed.

I just got a CB for christmas and was looking at doing this same set-up for the antenna. Does anyone have any input on this? I don't the antenna smacking against my Jeep from driving around so I was thinking of doing a FireFly with a heavy-duty spring, or would a bigger Firestik work better in that case? I took a measuring tape and it looks like a 3-ft antenna + spring will give it enough clearance over the top of the Jeep.

Also I looked around and it doesn't look like a writeup was done for this other then the 3 pictures wolverine snapped. It doesn't look too difficult but I'd like to figure out what's needed for getting the antenna grounded/what holes are needed to drill.

I mounted my CB on the passenger side of transmission. Allows me to view dials and lables right side up and doesn't take away from my leg room. Don't have front seat passengers too often so I don't worry about thier leg room. The speaker is mounted on CB's face so I don't have to worry that trans hump dampening the sound. I use a magnetic mount Little Will antenna. Good for highway use and removal so as not to advertise five finger discount electronics inside. :ROTFL: Aweful if you are trying to dodge tree branches and low garage clearance. :dizzy: Taillight mount would be better if overhead clearance is important. I use aux plug for power. CB mounted so I can easily remove if needed.

Mine is set up pretty much exactly like DoubleK's above me. That elastic (meant for a map/newspaper?) is perfect for holding the cb in. My husband has much bigger cb in his Dodge 2500 with the big bug antennas in the front on either side of the hood. A little loud for me, but the power is nice to have sometimes. I like the tail light mount above but I'd like to know too if that is whacking up against the Jeep?

I talked to the guys at Walcott CB and they said that if I had a Firestik (not a Firefly) with a Heavy Duty spring, it shouldn't move around enough to the point of hitting the body.

Post subject:  Re: CB and antenna

the firesticks are similar enough to the older fiberglass antennas that they don't flex or flap around a bunch. mounted to the tail light on a less than HD spring (on a WJ) they tend to bend around the vehicle towards the center due to the air current and look pretty stupid

with the HD spring they usually don't move much at all on the highway but still will bend if a tree or somethin grabs it before the point where the antenna would break

I've used a wilson flex for over a year mounted to the roof with no spring (they don't need one) and it bends back about 30ish degrees on the highway, will bend all the way back against the roof if it hits an obstruction, great antenna for a roof mount

however, maybe similar to the firefly, isn't something I'd want to mount on my tail light as I'm certain the recoil would have it slapping my jeep every time i stopped at a stop light

in a pinch you can always use something non conductive to teather it to keep it from bending so far back that it has a tenancy to smack the jeep

I'm not sure what I'll get for my new antenna, i've beat the wilson to pieces and although it still works as good as it did when I first got it, I just want a new antenna (and a new location) as my jeep is 1/2" from fitting in the garage as it is

So that's what that strap is for. :ROTFL:
Or was it made for some other purpose?

Can you actually talk to anyone ahead of you with that set up?
Should have at least half of it above the roof line to work right
