Digger, I didn't want to ask you directly because I wanted the answer to be public. I have seen people that add hitch to kk and add it below the bumper. I know that yours is not below the bumper. you have the little bumper cutout out and the hitch sits high for a better departure angle. Do you have the stock mopar hitch or another. I dont want to be adding stuff that will reduce my clearance. Yours...
also good...
Ive seen several that came out below the bumper, but got bored and distracted trying to find them so I wont post that photo. It sucks getting distract...oooo piece of candy. |

Looks like the same hitch I have which is the Mopar one ... I don't see anything different.

Agreed - I also have the Mopar hitch, install was a peice of cake - and it tucks up into the bumper a bit too. You'll have to cut a strip out of the bumper (it's actually already indented - look at your bumper - you'll see it). Easiest tool I found to cut it? Exacto Knife! |

Yep, it's a factory mopar hitch. I saw a round draw-tite the other day, and it hung well below the bumper...

I've found it frustrating that Jeep didn't factor in off-roading the KK enough to raise the tow hitch assembly up into the bumper (like on other Jeeps -- either the Grand or Commander -- can't recall which). I've beat the crud out of my hitch on rocks at the closest off-road park to me called Kansas Rocks. After I take care of a steel front bumper with winch, I'm turning my attention to the rear bumper -- even if I have to pay someone to make something. The KK's rear bumper, just itself, much less with a Mopar tow hitch below it and sticking further out, doesn't help the KK's clearance on the trail. Someone needs to make a steel, or aluminum, rear bumper that would tuck tighter to the KK's body and be a little tapered on the bottom side to maximize departure angle clearance. The tow hitch hardware should then be up inside the bumper. Sorry for the rant, I'm just getting tired of my KK dragging its tail, e.g. tow hitch, while off-roading and having to straighten it out after every single off-road trip. |
