Time to vent. So I love my 245/75 Duratracs. They have amazing traction and good wear. But I just gashed my sidewall for the 3rd time. This time it was the one they replaced just under 2 months ago. So it was new. This time it blew out on a dirt park road between trails. Am I doing something wrong? Or are the Duratracs just not cut out for the sharp central Texas rock? I guess I'm definitely getting the Kevlar MTR's next, when discount decides to stop honoring my road hazard warranty.

had duratracks on my zj and same thing happened to me. the side wall is the weak point.
now i run bf mk2 mtrs and love them only down side is that they weight almost double than the duratrack (i lost couple mpg's with them), they are noisy but they are bullet proof, and they tend to dig you faster in loose terrain that the duratracks.
i can say traction is better.

Are you running C or E rated tires? I know our sidewalls are thinner than others, so maybe not the best for sharp rocks...

They're the load range C's. I'm going to keep using the warranty as long as I can. But if they ever deny me due to abuse. Then I'm upgrading.

Load range E would probably hold up a bit better. You'll just sacrifice ride quality...

The Duratracs are becoming like BFG's,weak sidewalls regardless of tire rating(C or E).I've never had any issues with MT/R's,either the old style or the new style Kevlars.

Are you airing down? running street pressures,or close to(still in the 20's is still to much),also makes tire more prone to tearing offroad.

I usually run at 17- 20 offroad. So not too low and not too high. I really want to get the Kevlar MTR's next. But don't get me wrong the Duratracs seem to be awesome for all terrains except areas with sharp rocks.

In my experience, Goodyears have always seemed to have thin skin and puncture easily. My best were the Kevlar MTRs, LR-E. I always opt for LR-E when available.
My Silent Armors once took a little sliver of sharp rock to the carcass in the void between tread blocks. On a county gravel road, no less.
Definitely not overbuilt.
