So looking at getting

235/85r16 which is 31.7" tall and slightly wider than stock about 9.5" wide, 49#
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=All-Terrain+T%2FA+KO&partnum=385SR6ATAKORWLV2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=1

Or

265/75r16 which is 31.6 tall and wider about 10.4" wide, 54#
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=All-Terrain%20T/A%20KO&partnum=675SR6ATAKORWLV2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

Why one or the other?

((My thoughts one the 235s is they are the ones on the rubicon wranglers.))OPPS I AM WRONG between the () the 2008+ rubicons have 255/75r16

The 235's are to narrow for the MOAB's,the installer will hate you for trying and the total height will be drastically shortened for those 235's on a 8" rim, probably barely 31" tall after install. You need a 6"-7" rim for the 235's.

I think you made a typo... I think you meant 265/75/16... they're about 32s and what I will be going with. ill be getting them after the new lift, 4.10s installed and need to replace my 31s. you will want new gears with a 32 tire or expect drastic difference in power. plus with 4.10s and 32s will keep the speedo accurate and any small power loss will come from the added weight

FYI Rubicon Wranglers

TJ based 03-06 came with 245/75/16 MTR's on 16X8 rims 5x4.5 bolt pattern 5" backspacing
JK based 07 & up came with 255/75/17 BFG MT on 17x7.5 5x5 bolt pattern (don't know the backspace)

no 235's and they are not light - tires alone are in the 50lb range

Yeah I meant 265/75r16 I changed it on the first post not to confuse anyone else. Are you putting these on the stock rims? Any special requirements? What type gears did you get and how much did they cost and to install??

Sorry but not sure what you mean by "...to narrow for MOAB's" The plan is to use the stock rim. The stock rim is 16"x7". The recommended tire by the lift manufacture is 235/85r16. Will the 235/85r16 work on a stock 2008 KK rim? comments? sugguestions? I'm all ears....

My only reason not to go with the 265/75r16 was to try to get better mpg. This is my daily driver and I drive a lot and tow in summer. I thought with the 235's I could hold off on the gearing unitl later. I am not a speed demon....well not on the road/off-roading!

Thanks for all the input this is my first jeep and first truck I am doing any lift mods on.

You edited your post which stated you wanted to mount them on MOAB's.

MOAB's after some research I found out MOAB's are jeep wrangler 17x8 rims, right? I have the stock 2008 kk rims which are 16x7 so will the 235/85r16 work? or do you still suggest 265/75r16?

you could put either on stock rims. 235 would not work well on moabs though. I would think the mileage difference would be minimal between the two width. height is what's gonna kill you unless you regear.

E2 are you lifted? If not you aren't going to get any of those tires to fit. To get them to fit with minimal rubbing issues you are going to need a 4" lift. I ran a 255/70/16 which is just a little over stock height BUT 10.2" wide and it just barley didn't rub with no lift. If I was turning up/down an incline then I did get some rubbing on the inside.

Thanks DirtyKK. Yeah the lift should be here today.

Still seems most people like the wider tire but not really need and the 235s will work with the stock kk rims. So maybe i'll go wider? Maybe the tire shop can put both on to see what it looks like. The narrow one will work for me unless it looks odd

Tires dont last forever. you can always change later if you dont like them and both choices of size will fit the stock wheels

So i guessing that I might go with the 235/85r16 the first time around. Either drop down to 245/75r16 after that go go with 265/75r16

Yeah but do last a few years and if they are the wrong choice u gotta live with it or maybe even change them out for smaller until I get gears... I bet at that point would be cheaper to regear.

Don't quote me on this but, I'm thinking most of the 235/85/16's are a load range E Just thinking thats alot of extra weight. Possibly heavier then the 265/75/16 in a load range better suited for a jeep. just my :2cents:

I reply with quote..... The bfg 235/85r16 are about 5# lighter than the 265/75r16 u bring up a good question..

The KOs ATs have a general summary the tire is good for bla bla bla. One point stating air downs, but does this apply to the entire chart no matter what the the tire ratio or load is??? Airing down on a 235?
