Post subject:  WIDE in BACK NARROW in FRONT..........

BUY (4) 265/75r16 and (1) 235/75r16 for the spare both same height so no problem there.

If the 265 work great! My spare is just a spare and should work if needed being the same height.

If the 265 don't work. I have the 235/85r16 to see if the narrow tire would work without cutting and folding over the pinch weld. Yeah after seeing the 265s on I might not even think this, but all I would need to buy would be one 235/85r16 and then I can have the two 235/85r16 up front where the 1" narrow tire will hopefully be enough to solved any major issues.

THOUGHTS? I will be placing order thursday evening.

i have seen this on some big trucks that tow or haul alot of stuff. Ive seen a wider AND taller tire in the rear on trucks also... i dont think it looks right though

You also tend to see it on rear wheel drive drag racers.... big wide footprint/traction on the rear = good start.

In theory, I can't see the harm - although you won't be able to properly rotate your tires anymore. As long as they're the same rolling diameter, there shouldn't be any 4wd problems though, except for on un-sure surfaces, mud, snow, sand, etc. You'll tend to bury your front end - because the narrow tire will be trying to dig down to something hard, and your back tires will be trying to float on top.

Personally, i wouldn't do it, buy four wides, bite the bullet - and pound that pinchweld down... but that's just me.

I have 65 series by 10.5" wide on my lowered s-10 blazer in the rear and 60 series by 7.5" in the front. This is a show truck and does not look bad.

YES never seen this on a 4x4 thou!

The plan is not to do it, but once I buy the four tires and the 265 don't work I will have to decide to pound the pinch weld over or switch to narrower front tires. Narrower tires may not even work! With the spare already being narrower I could try it out and see if while offroading it clears or does not clear the pinch weld being 9.5" versus 10.5". The width being narrow might not make a differnce. From what I could tell from the two tires I did try it should make a 1/4" more clearance, but will that be enough while offroading to clear the pinch weld? No one knows.

Don't plan on your 4wd working with that much height difference,a 1/4" equals a big difference in total circumference.Now if you had the command tracII t-case you'd be fine.


My '84 CUCV Blazer I ran 34x9.50x15 TSL's(15x6 rim,20psi) up front and 33x14.50x15 Boggers(15x10 rims,16psi) in the rear,had offset rims so the front and rear tire center lines matched when I mud dragged raced.The front cut the path and the rears pushed,12"-28" of mud.I later switched to 33x10.50x15 Boggers(when they got DOT approved) in the front but upped the psi of the fronts to 24psi and lowered the rears to 10psi.Always wanted the front tires spinning faster in mud to keep you straight(well mostly).

The 235/85r16 and 265/75r16 tires are the same height. 31.7"

The 235/85r16 and 265/75r16 tires are the same height. 31.7"

Not generally,there close but not the same,not even from the same tire manufacturer.There final overall height is also greatly effected on the rim width used and air pressure.A 265/75R16 will be taller on a 7" wide rim then a 8" wide rim at the same pressure,by almost .4",I know since I ran the exact same set of 265/75R16 MT/R's on both a 8" rim and a 7" rim.A 235/85 will be shorter on a 8" rim(have fun getting it on a 8" rim) then a 7" rim at the same pressure,the height difference will be more extreme with the 235/85's then the 265/75's.

The Select trac will give you shifting problems if you have air pressure variation, or wear differences, or 2 different manufacturers for the same size tire.

I would not try 2 different sizes even if they calculate the same diameter - there's enough tolerance in the size definition - to give you a problem.

buy 5 and do a 5 way tire rotation
