Hey guys..

Just rolled over 7000 miles (7003) on my 2010 KK and this morning when i pulled into work i got a CEL... o yay!!!!! previously being a chrysler owner, i knew how to check the CEL..

so i went through the routine... usually where the code pops up.. all i got was "------" "------" "-done-" .............. so i have a CEL, but its not throwing a code..

i have been overall satisfied with the Jeep so far besides a few minor things..

1) there is some type of 'squeek' thats related to the suspension moving.. sounds like its coming from the inside, but can't diagnose it. (tried the front seat bolts, all tight)

2) something about the sound of the engine just sounds funny, ever since the first day i picked it up.. just really quiet and sounds like i can hear the valvetrain more than i thought i would on a new car. from what i read the 3.7L sounds pretty pathetic, so that might just be it.

3) after 5000 miles, when i back out of a spot, the breaks squeek like a witch.

other than that, and this new CEL, loving the Jeep so far.

anyone ever have an issue with a CEL that doesn't pop a code? and at this low of miles?

That way of checking codes does not always show the codes. If the MIL was turned on but the problem fixed itself the code is transferred to a history code and may not show up."C","B",and "U" codes usually need a high end scanner to read.

well thats retarded... haha..

an on-board code checker that can't even check all of its own codes..

hope auto zones readers are high end enough or the dealer will cover the diagnostic under warranty, considering ive had the Jeep for less than 5 months and its throwing a @$#% engine code.

as tkjk said its proabably the scanner... the jeeps are known for sqeaking... just tightening the seat might not be enough it might need to be greased... if it consistently is making the noise ask the delaer and have one of the tech take a ride... about the brakes, well the oem pads are garbage IMO... but to try and solve your issue i would really spray down your brakes with a house... even if you have a powerwasher try that... the reason is that it could be the brake dust... i mean i have 18k on my truck and every time mine squeak(i have oem pads still) i just do that trick and i'm squeak free til the brake dust builds up again. pads will be replaced next oil change... thinking about doing either ebc green stuff for the fronts and back maybe even ebc yellows for the front n green in the back

^^^ thanks for the input..

i took it to the dealer and had it scanned (FREE) and they said they needed to do a 'flash update'

it had thrown two codes, which were P codes, which i thought the in-car reader was supposed to be able to read, but whatever, its gone now..

the codes they said it had thrown (per the paperwork) were:

P1696: PCM Failure EEPROM Write Denied
P0128: Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

The 1st code will not show up but with a high end scanner, the 2nd one is pointing to a stuck open t-stat.
