So I was messing around with the KK today and found out it has a brake override

 You just want me to type more don't ya

Basically, should your KK get to close to a Toyota and catch the run away bug, If you apply more then minimal pressure to the brake pedal while still applying pressure to the gas pedal for more then 3 seconds, it will cut the throttle.

Okay so how does this work, I thought it would be an override for the ESP or something like that.

Oh, sorry I had to read it again to understand what we are talking about. If I understand you correctly what you are saying is that Jeeps are smarter than the Toyotas. Makes perfect sense now. Very good find could save us from destroying cars in our way. Thanks

No problem, I should have been clearer

Ya, now we just have to remember that if the rig takes off on it's own, to apply the brake. Then to do what is totally against everything we have ever learned, and step on the accelerator to slow down... :dizzy:
I bet the Toyota will do the same thing. But it is not something someone would think about doing in that situation.

I'll just pop in the clutch. Like I did when mine got stuck at 3000 RPM approaching a red stop light.
I hit the brakes and nothing happened, I popped in the clutch with the brakes still applied to slow down for the light. As I was slowing down, I tapped the gas pedal and the RPM went up then back to 3000 RPM and stayed there. When the rig slowed down to 20 mph the RPM finally dropped back to normal.
All this occurred in less than 10 seconds. Scary stuff... Glad the wife was not driving or we might have a new rig right now.

If I would have had an automatic, the rig would not have slowed down, because the RPM was stuck at 3000 RPM(right at the peak HP curve). Not sure if I would have thought about, or had enough time to pop it into neutral.
If you even can with an automatic now days?

neutral is a nice easy tap away on an automatic

Only works when the trans shifter is not electronic like toyota.

Oh and toyota does not have that brake over ride, they are starting to add them though.

Cool. 8)

Now all we need is a feature to stop runaway Toyotas from hitting us. :-)r

My hitch and d-ring takes care of that for me. (under 30mph)

the brakes are 10x more powerfull than the engine. if you press both pedal to the floor the jeep will stop not accelerate. I still dont get it how people can crash their toyota's , i mean just jump both feet on the brakes and you will lock all 4 wheels instantly even with the super dooper 4 cyl engine at full power

well what about that lexus that took off... think about it that car was doing like 140... you slam on the brakes... honestly your in for some crazy ride... especially if your not a great driver ( which most drivers on the road have never seen 120+)

that lexus must have all the esp/abs goodies and personally id rather lock the wheels at 140 than hit a concrete wall at 140

Should have been on the brakes well before that speed,as you said someone that does not know how to drive and needed those techno gizmo's to drive and it came around and bit him in the butt.

Oh and at 140 mph 99% of OEM brakes will instantly self destruct trying to over ride the engines power.

at 140 the tranny is on the last gear thus very little torque is trasferred to the wheels. when you brake at that speed with engine at full power then 95% of the braking power is used to dissipate the energy stored in the mass of the veichle and 5% for the actual engine power making almost no diffrence. if what you said is true then 99% of the oem brakes will self destruct if you brake at 140 with the engine idle

Post subject:  Re: Brake Override

exactly so at 140 if you hit the brakes and slam them it serves no purpose... they also feared turning the car off as you would then lose steering etc... and doing 140 with no steering is NO BUENO... lol honestly if it happened to me i'd try right away to solve it but the problem is not that the brakes dont work the brakes work fine... the car just wont stop accelerating.... so honestly you have to act quick... i would be driving against the wall to slow myself down... on the brakes, e-brake pulled... and eventually is i got slow enough try to turn off the vehicle.... ( this is if i couldnt do anything else) i mean better to destroy the car then really hurt someone else

Your not going to be in OD at that speed,as most engines don't have the torque for that, even corvettes can't achieve top speed in 6th gear, and in a lexus your most likely turning close to redline at that speed and that's alot of engine for stock brakes to overcome at that speed(both road speed and engine rpm's).

you dont loose steering with engine off you loose power steering. I personally have been in a situation where i lost the engine while driving and i was able to pull over without problems

You will in a lexus, they have electronic steering,no PS pump just a electric motor attached to the R&P.That stupid parking assist is to thank for that.
