Tony CRD and I were very lucky to be able to get a private tour of the Jeep Plant here in Toledo last Tuesday. It was amazing to see the KK/ Nitro go from stamped sides/roof/etc to a finished product. The steps that go into making one is quite interesting. starting with the subframe and going to the floorpans/sides/roof is the final before the interior starts to be installed Insides of the doors are brought in from a outside supplier as is the whole dash assembly. It comes in as a one piece unit and robotically placed and two workers install two bolt per side to hold it. We saw, everything, boxes of transfer cases, motors-trannys lined up They completely build them on the line which is far different than the way they build the Wranglers |

I've never been on a factory tour for any vehicle but that had to be especially cool seeing Jeeps getting assembled. |

wow, totally cool that you were able to do that, how did you swing that anyway? I went throught the GM assembly plant in janesville, wi I think in 96 or 97, they built suburban and tahoes there and I think that always stayed a SUV line until it was closed last year or can't remember how long ago that was. Man I'd love to tour a plant again, was alot of fun to watch it all come together. One Piece at a Time, did you collect any parts while there? |
