Post subject:  Custom Front or Rear Bumpers Q.

I found a company that makes front bumpers, rear bumpers, and sliders, they have not done anything for the KJ or KK but I emailed them to see if they would be willing to make them for us. I will be calling them and seeing if they would.
Now if they could do it for mass production, which I don't know yet.
1. Who would want to purchase one?
2. Would you prefer the front, rear or both?
3. How much are you willing to pay?

Just want to have an idea of what to tell them, to see if I can get them to produce them.
I will post info once I speak to them.
Thanks in advance.

I bet they could do it how ever you want them.

This is their website so you can see what they have done. http://www.perkinsperformance.com/projects.html

I haven't talk to them yet so it is to early to see what options they could do. I'm mostly seeing how many of us would be willing to buy them so I can relate it to them.

Okay, I spoke w Perkins Performance and they are up for it. I would just have to take it in and they will take measurements and make them for us. If we make a group buy we can get discounts. As for the price it will vary depending on how many go in on it.

They make some nice stuff. And they are not that far from me. I just may have to have a look-see some day soon. I'm sure they could do some work on my rig as well.
I really like the swing out rear tire carrier. SWEET!
Great find.

Sounds great Scar0. I even asked him if there would be a way to make the application work for Nitro, He it might be possible but it would be hard to tell w/o getting the measurements but I was thinking of your Nitro specially cause your profile says SW Washington, so I figured this would benefit you.
I wanted to see if we could get a group buy, to save some cash.
I told him I was advertising them a forum, and he was thankful.
Well, let me know if you go. I'll like to take measurements to see what they can come up w.
I also love the swing arm, he can do it. It does cost a little more but would be worth it.

Okay, so I think we could probably have a group buy, so I'm going to schedule to have him take measurements.

Let me know when you will be there. I may be able to meet you there, depending on day/time. It's about a 3 hour drive.

3hrs dang you are further than me I'm about 1.5hrs. I have to look at my schedule to see which day I got off so I can take it. I will let you know for sure, I'll probably PM you, it might be a little short notice, because I would like to take it as soon as I can, but will keep you posted, would be awesome if you can make it too.

About Shackles, that is standard, he was telling the way they weld them is the strongest way and that they are among the few that do it like that. As for the rear tire mount, they offer it both ways w it or w/o the arm.

Glad to see people interested. Will continue to post info as we go.

Thanks

Post subject:  Re: Custom Front or Rear Bumpers Q.

This was my email I got, sorry could not post it earlier I was at work, so could not copy and paste.
"All of our bumpers are drawn up in Autocad 3D prior to anything being cut from steel, this enables us to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, aesthetics, and overall funcionality of the bumper. It is easy to change things on the computer before anything is cut. Once we are happy with the design, we have the parts cut out of 3/16" de-scaled steel with a CNC laser cutting machine. Our shackle mounts are cut from 1" thick a60 steel with a CNC Waterjet machine. These have lugs that protrude through the bumper so they can be welded on the backside of the bumper as well as the front. We try to incorporate the OEM turn signals and/or fog lights into the design of our bumpers to maintain some of the visual appeal of the factory bumper and at the same time eliminate the need to purchase additional lights. All of our front bumpers have a winch mount incorporated into them. If it is a hidden winch design the winch will bolt to the face of the bumper and share the mounting holes with the fairlead. If we cannot make the winch fit inside the bumper we will have a mounting plate perpendicular to the face of the bumper for the winch to sit on. We have many options available for grille guards. We can use mandrel bent 2"x3", 2"x4" rectangular tubing for the uprights or we can use all 1.75" DOM tubing. We try and keep the grille guards and brush guards as unobtrusive as possible while still providing superior protection to the lights and grille.

The rear bumpers are made with the same process as the front bumpers, and can have a spare tire carrier added to them. They are 3/16" with 1/4" adjustable mounting plates. We normally incorporate a 2" receiver on all of the mid-size rear bumpers, as well as the 1" shackle mounts. Our spare tire carriers use a CNC machined pivot assembly that starts life as a chunk of 2" solid cold rolled steel. The outer portion of the pivot is made from 2"x.250" DOM tubing, and this is the part that is TIG welded to the swing out carrier. The threads are rolled instead of cut, leading to longer life and eliminating stress risers for a part that is 30% stronger than conventional methods. We use a stainless bolt to keep everything tight, and oil-impregnated bushings to keep everything moving freely. There is no need to lift up on the tire when closing the carrier, this is taken into account when the carrier is built. This makes opening and closing very easy in conjunction with our 2-turn handle, so easy in fact, women and children have no problem operating it, even while wearing gloves. The simplicity of this design is great because it never has to be adjusted, will always remain tight, and there are no parts to come off or stow. Basically the handle is a 1" bolt cut to size with our handle welded to the top, which is made from 1/2" steel round bar. There is a nut welded to the bumper to receive the handle. Depending on the design, the swing out portion is either 2"x3"x.180" steel tubing, or 1.75"x.134" DOM tubing, often times having a bend is necessary. We normally offset the tire to the driver's side to increase visibility without blocking the tail lights, however, we can center it or mount it on the passenger side. The tire mount is made from 1/4" lase rcut steel and is bolted to the carrier via slotted hole for height adjustability. All our bumpers are completely bolt on, and some may require some drilling of holes.

I hope I have been able to answer many of the questions you have about our products, processes, and options. I have included many photos for your convenience.
Please feel free to give us a call when you are ready to order, or if there are any other questions I can answer for you. Have a great day!"

Man, I live only 5 or 10 minutes from there. I'm interested somewhat front bumper only, custom fab work can be very expensive.
