I just did this and it works great. There is still some noise at about 75mph and above, but it is now at a completely acceptable level. Great fix, and a big relief after several years of being annoyed by this.

Picked up a 2008 KK with a Sky Slider before Christmas. We were bummed about the wind noise as this was one of the reasons we bought a new car; our old car's sunroof made a lot of noise around 95 km/h+. We experienced noise with the Sky Slider at 85 km/h+ :(

Thank goodness for this forum as we are out of warranty and the TSB did not look attractive or as a permanent fix.

I took the advice of this form and did the alcohol clean and install 3/4" x 7/16" neoprene weatherstripping
Image

I dried and cleaned the lip. Then installed the weather stripping

This is what it looks like installed

Here's a video of it closing

I trimmed the 90 degree edge of the weatherstripping so it doesn't catch when closing
Image

Unfortunately there is just too much bulk in the 7/16" and the safety mechanism would make is stop short
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9RAgruTjHQ

I took out the 7/16" and grabbed some 1/4"
Image

Here's a video of it closing with the 1/4"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8A2QqLx-z0

We got a nice complete close and it's nice and quite up to 160 km/h (100 mp/h)

Yes - - - > I will be trying this fix tomorrow or over the weekend. Ridiculous the Dealer techs or Chrysler couldn't figure something like this out??

Been having trouble with the dealer and Chrysler direct for months. Warranty just ran out 2012 for my 2008 Jeep Liberty. Love the Skyslider but can't stand the noise!

thanks everyone - I will be posting results!!

My concern would be leaking near the portion of the slider that has to go from touching the weatherstripping to touching the rubber part on the roof! seems like this would create a gap would it not????

I have had this done on my KK for over a year now and have had no water problems whatsoever. The wind noise does seem to be getting a tad louder on the highway so I will probably redo it come spring. I've got no problem spending the extra $4.00.

My weatherstripping starting to go. Its the 3rd time I've replaced it. I've been cruisin around the internet trying to find alternative solutions and I stumbled onto BMW's site. The new X5 has a panoramic sunroof that seems to be having the same issue as the KK Sky Slider. So BMW made a really really nice wind deflector for the X5. I'm going to call my local BMW parts store and see if I can get my hands on it and see if it will fit. Does anyone know anything about the deflector? I just don't know how large the X5's panoramic sunroof is. The Sky Slider is around ~44" I believe.

Here is a pic of the X5's panoramic roof.
Image
As you can see it looks really similar to the KK's

Just trying to make some more progress on the issue

I don't think it pops out. It looks pretty permanent. I havn't had a chance to run by the BMW dealership. Snowstorm hit today. :furious:

This sky slider wind noise keeps driving me crazy ( KK 2008 model). Ive tried the wind stripping solution but it didn' t work. Is there any wind deflector that can finally make the difference?

Jesus-H-Christie I hate when this thread pops up again.....

Image

No. There are no wind deflectors that work with the sky slider.

My sky slider roof broke and of course jeep wanted between 2500-3000$ to fix it. I found a mechanic who used the adhesive for windshields and put about 3 feet of it in the front and back of the top. Its not noticeable and is holding strong. The downside is that the roof cannot be opened. However i prefer this to the top almost flying off the car going down the interstate. So if you dont care if the top opens this was about a $75 fix with no leaks or air noise.
