Exactly how do i make 245/75/16s fit stock?

Post subject:  Exactly how do i make 245/75/16s fit stock?
I have seen the how-to for the pinch weld poundin and whatnot but it would seem that is in regards to the KJ.

What do i need to do for the kk? I do not see anywhere on the fender wells where there is a bulge that would particularly rub.

I have a 3/8 boiler shim up front which i assume adds a SLIGHT bit more clearance. Other than that my suspension is stock.


I want to throw on some definity dakota 245/75/16s that pep boys has they want about $600 installed.

If they rub will they only rub when im going to make some drastic turn that has the wheels locked out like a k turn? I don't see them rubbing on regular driving and being an issue?

I was sorta in the same boat so i ordered 235/75/16's which are just slightly less wide to prevent rubbing at lock. I will be putting them on tomorrow so i will let you know. The pinch weld is in the fender well towards the bottom and the rear. Push down on the plastic liner and you'll feel it.

So the pinch weld is located towards the dear at the bottom of the front and rear fender well?

If I pound the weld will the 245/75/16 fit with no rub?


What's the bigest I can go with no rub/no weld pound.

It's in the front fender well. Go to pep boy's and ask if you can do a test fitment on that tire before you buy. I'm running a 2" daystar lift, but still have the stock tires on it so i really couldnt tell you if they will fit. If you dont plan on any more lift, you may want to consider 235/75/16, or maybe 245/70/16, but the latter will only be wider, not much taller.

How does tire size work? Which number means what?

First number: width in milimeters
Second number: aspect ratio of sidewall compared to first number (75 would be 75% of first number)
Third number: rim size

Discount tire's website has a good tire calculator that will compare two tire sizes and also convert it inches

Atthehelm is right.

Here's another calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

245 = mm wide
75 = sidewall 75% of width
16 = rim size.
inches/millimeter = 0.03937

SSSOOOO.... formula for rolling diameter is:

((245*0.75)*2)*0.03937)+16 = 30.5 " tall

I just put some 245/70/16 Bridgestone Revo2s on my KK. Stock height with Cragar Soft 8 rims. Backspacing is 0. For me, I needed to cut/mold part of the fender well in front of the wheel. I was getting rub at about 85-90% lock. So I made a cut like this:

Looking back, I wish I would have used a heat gun to just soften the plastic and then push it back because there is nothing behind that wall and it would be easy to stretch it out of the way.

I also get some rub on the pinch weld, which is behind the wheel, again at about 85-90% lock. I haven't tackled this job yet due to time constraints, but its been almost a month and I'm not having any real issues. I'm just mindful of how far I'm turning the wheel in parking lots and stuff, but as far as road driving, it never comes into play.

So I'm not sure how much more rub you would get with the 75s.. I'm sure the boiler shim helps a little bit, but it will most likely mean you will just need to cut/pound 3/8" lower than I did.

I was actually thinking about getting 245/70/16 Revo2's with some 16x8 wheels but after I was reading through the threads I realized I was going to have issues with rubbing if I went with 8" wide wheels... Would you say it's the combination of the lower offset and the width of the tire that it rubs on yours? If I got 235/75/16 tires with 16x8 wheels do you think I would still deal with rubbing?

just got my 235/75/16's put on and i have no rubbing at all but still they look a good deal bigger and more aggressive than the stockers. :pepper:

So pepboys gave me a price of $138 a tire fourth one is free.

Price is for 245/75/16s and they won't do fit testing.

They want $125 in labor.


In total its like $600 installed.

Good or bad price?

125 is too high unless the tpms add to the cost of installation. This is my first vehicle with it, so i dont know. Usually its like $80-90 for mounting, balancing, and stems if you need it. Have you looked at discount tire direct? They offer free shipping and their prices are darn near unbeatable.

I have to double check I do not think they offer the fourth tire free unless they do the work.

I really like the particular tire I will snap a pic maybe you guys know something similar.
