So i've been thinking about upgrading my muffler and a few questions. I have never had anything but stock on all vehicles i have owned. The flowmaster super 44 seems to be the top pick for everyone on this forum, so what are your opinions of it? Does it produce any annoying drone at cruising speeds or when ascending long grades? I am looking for something a little more throaty and somewhat louder, but not to the point where its obnoxious. Does it give any noticable power and mpg's? Second set of questions: Install. Okay, i know our pipes are 2.5" but is this o.d. or i.d.? Can i just cut the pipe before the stock muffler and slide the new muffler on it, then slide an extension on and clamp it all down? I will probably be leaving on the resonator and the stock tail pipe. How well do those band clamps work on butt joints or lap joints? I know i have a lot of questions but i want to do the work myself, and i also dont want to buy the first muffler i see, cut my exhaust, then realize i was totally unprepared and drive to the parts store or muffler shop with just a straight pipe all illegal like. |

if you dont want drone dont get the super 44 get like a 50 or something and don't take of the resonator like i did... it will help MPG a little... you will get the throatier sound u want... and as far as size and specs i can give you details later but as for now i just finished finals and it's party time |

So i listened to sound clips and i like the super 44's tone the best. Just need some input from someone who has done their own install with clamps and what exactly i need. |

Ok, so as you can see, I cut my muffler right behind it. (The back is to the right) ![]() One clamp is used in the rear ![]() As for the front, I have 2 more clamps. Because the 44 is shorter then the stock one, I had to purchase a extension piece. My autozone stocks pieces of exhaust pipe and IIRC, I was able to get a 12 inch piece that fit perfectly. On mine, as soon as I undid the front OEM clamp, I was able to just pill the OEM muffler off then I took the new extension pipe and butted it right up to the retaining button that is welded on the front half of the exhaust system ![]()

Does it matter in what order you put it together (extension then muffler or muffler then extension)? Sound difference? |

Due to the limited amount of straight pipe after the muffler, it was easier for me to assemble it like this. The expanded section on my extension piece was deeper then those found on the muffler if that makes sense.... |

Thanks Digger! So does the extension peice need to be flared or expanded at one end to fit over the stock pipe? |

1. Thanks for the vids digger. 2. I really want to change my exhaust. It sounds like a someone breathing threw a straw. A pathetic example for a pathetic exhaust. The super 44 sounds like the right one. Now I just need to find it for dirt cheap. |
