Is it possible to put the new 2011 nav system in my 2010 KK? I have the 2010 Nav but the new one us supposed to be a whole lot better and I really like that it has actual buttons. Would it fit without any major modifications? I would probably have the dealership do this because I would have no idea what I was doing. They would probably have to program it or something for it to work anyways.

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work. It's basically like putting in an aftermarket stereo.

You might even want to look into that. I have a Soundstream 7" DVD,CD,MP3, NAV system that I bought used. It is all touchsream and works great. My model has a separate NAV box that takes an SD card for the navigation so upgrading is as easy as buying a new SD card (which range fron $40-$100 depending on which type). I'm not sure how the new factory ones are but I know in my father's 2006 WK he would need to buy a $200+ CD to upgrade his.

Buying an aftermarket might be a better, easier and much cheaper way to go. Unless you want to keep it looking stock inside. :2cents:

I dont care about it looking stock. Im just not a fan of the Nav. I was drawn to the new factory one because I heard it was Garmin based and Ive had a few problems with the one I have. Does the Soundstream have Sirius? and hows the user interface? easy to use? Id really like something thats full of cool little features if Im going to switch from the factory one.

As for updating the factory nav, its all a big scam. I bought my jeep in july and then the next week I got something in the mail saying that I need to buy this CD for 200 bucks because mine is out of date. THE WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT!!!!!

That's why I was looking for one with an SD card NAV. Easier to upgrade. I bought the Soundstream used for my Frontier but traded it in for the Liberty so threw it in there. I like it. It is very straight forward and easy to use. Mine is a few years old so I don't think it has Sirius built in but when I had mine installed I had them hook up my portable sirius player to an auxillary port so it works great. (I have always had a portable sirius because I use it in multiple vehicles and as an mp3 player). It has multiple Aux ports, an SD slot for music/movies, an ipod hook-up, USB port, and plays DVD's, CD's etc.

The thing I don't like is that the brand is kindof obscure (at least on the east coast). Since I bought mine used it didn't have a NAV antenna and apparently they refuse to sell one separately (I fhad to find one on ebay). Also I believe that a lot of them now have an SD card Nav slot built in to the radio instead of a seprarte modul (which costs more). But, I can actually buy another separate module and get satellite TV for it as well if I want :D (not sure if you can do that with some other brands).

I looked at some new ones at Bestbuy, etc., and it seems that you can get a new Kenwood, JVC, etc., for around $600-$700 which I'm sure is much cheaper than a factory stereo, especially a 2011 factory stereo.

A used 2010 factory nav is 800-1000 bucks (meaning is not going to happen). Id rather put some better quality speakers all around. Or would that just be a waste of money?

Being that you have a 2010 your speakers could probably wait. Most factory speakers are now pretty good, at least for awhile. Mine is a 2008 and I think the previous owner was not so nice to the speakers so mine are starting to crackle and pop. Again, unless you want everyone around you to hear what you are listening to then changing out the speakers before they need it would seem a bit of a waste. :2cents:

Money that could be spent on other needless mods.

Can you not update your nav by downloading the updates offline? I have a 2011 and in the manual it says to go to a certain website to check the software version that is in the Jeep, and as they release updates you are supposed to download them and put them on a flash drive and plug them into the front of the nav...

That's why everyone likes the new 2011 nav systems. Prior to this year they tried to force you to pay a large sum of money to upgrade. I guess they finally learned that people just weren't going to fall for it. Especially when the portable ones are so cheap now. My parents both use Garmin Nuvi's instead of their factory nav systems for that very reason.

I just realized that I can use my droid as a Nav. I just saved myself a ton of money  Now its time to throw it out the window on something else I dont need! :-)r

For the 2008 to 2010, if the radios stayed the same.

THen NavTeq sells the updates on a DVD.
That cost $199, last time I looked. It might get updated every year.

If in 2011 they went with a new Radio that uses some new garmin supported software, great.
But Garmin buys there data from NavTeq as well.

Please keep this in Mind. NavTeq and the other Map proivders charge more money for the same data for installed units.
Most installed units have more data than portale units.

There is data for GPS only and or GPS plus Gyro scopes.. THe Raw data is differant...

Now that Gyro scopes are getting dirt cheap even $100 hand helds units have them.
But the Map makers still charge diffferant rates....

I work for a Nav Software company for 6 years. This is all info I gather from that Job.
I know way to much about what really happens with Raw data and nav systems...

I am sticking to my Driod for the free maps...
But enjoy having the Jeep as a over all guide, that will be updated once every 5 years if it is lucky...

FWIW I have read in a few locations that the 2011 models have an updated CANBUS so 2011 NAV may not work in an older model. If you look at the MOPAR accessories the electronics are almost all different part numbers than the 08-10s. Could be wrong but thought I would toss that out. Oh and if you enjoy bluetooth be aware that the RHB (430N) does not have the internals for bluetooth and you would need to buy the $350 kit.

I'd just go talk to the dealer and get a quote and to see if they think it would be workable. Of couse, I've got a good Jeep dealer in KC.

Ive decided that since its probably going to be $1,035 (according the the Jeep website), Im not changing my radio or anything. I just can justify paying that much for a just ANOTHER nav. And I cant believe I was even thinking about this in the first place. I dont know where my head was when I came up with this.

Here in Jersey I have a great service department. When I was shopping around for a few things and told them about wanting to paint my grill and all, the guy on the phone got all into it and we ended up bouncing ideas off each other for a good 45mins. I dont think you could ask for a nicer group of people.
