Hummer H3 (not bad but 5cyl was way under powered, drove the V8 Alpha and it was awesome but waayyyy tooo much $$$$$. $50k for a cheap plastic interior wasn't going to cut it.) Toyota FJ (couldn't get one with leather, nav, and heated seats at the time - otherwise thats what I would have bought) Chevy Silvarado (too big for my needs) Volvo S60R (fun but lacked the towing/carrying capacity) Nissan Frontier 4-dr (too industrial for my tastes) What I really wanted was a small, 4-dr pick-up with a nice interior (like my Limited KK), band I wanted a diesel engine = not available in the USA. Jeep??? Are you listening??? I want a LIMITED KK/MJ-equivalent with a CRD! Call it an MK, bring back the Comanche.

I mostly considered the XTerra and the various half ton trucks because I was looking for 5000+ tow ratings. Basically I went with the Liberty based on cost and the SUV form factor. A year and a half later I still think it was a good choice.

Escape Patriot We went with the liberty, becuase it cost the least with Zero % interest for 4 years.. But I am sorry to say, I am very unhappy witht eh gas mileage. I can only blame my wife for pushing us to buy it... Good news in 23 months it will be paid off.... |

My spousal-unit and I went to the sad little Columbus Auto show in March of '10. We were looking at GM and Mopar products for the most part, but we also looked at some of the imports as well. We just can't do Ford, although they appear to have some decent vehicles; they just don't appeal to me. It was important to have a poor-weather vehicle with fold-flat seats and room to haul the furkids around. Deb tried on the Patriot, but she's too short; she had to move the seat so far forward that her knees hit the dash. I thought it was OK. I don't quite trust the CVT, but the 2.4 is solid. The GMs were too expensive and lacked a dog-friendly interior. GCs and Commanders were too expensive, period. We're not into Fords, but we wanted a domestic vehicle. Not much is left at that point. Deb isn't into the looks of the Libby's twin Nitro, and I like the idea of the Libby's two-speed transfer case. Since we're a GM/Mopar family, the decision had been made. As bonus karma points, the Libby is built in Toledo so we supported our neighbors up north. Two months after the car show, we bought a new Deep Water Blue '10 Limited with some nice extras. I don't think it's fair for folks to compare the Liberty (built on what is, essentially, a unibody Dakota) to the car-based competition. It's just not the same type of vehicle underneath. |

Previously owned a 4Runner with a 5 speed, wanted a new(er) one with an auto for my wife to drive. I needed a "real" suv with min 5000 lb tow capacity for the camper and boat. Noticed a new black Liberty at the local dealer and stopped to take a look...... |

Looked at used A4s and 3 series. They were too expensive and the price of maintaining one wasnt too appealing either. And the service plans are dumb expensive. Thought about an escape at one point but it had the feel of an economy car which I didn't want. I was set on like an 06 charger with a 5.7. It had to cargo space I needed but insurance for it was nuts. Even insurance on the V6s were rough. Thought a little about the Avenger but realized it was dumb. I went through a vtech phase...someone please shoot me. When I went to sell the 06 Libby we had, the dealer sucked me in and the reney caught my eye. I have a few regrets. I like to do things to the extreme, and thats really not a liberty. I know its a "jeep in a box" but a wrangler/unlimited would have been cool to build up. Or on the other side of the spectrum, a 5.7 charger or an 04-06 GTO would have been perfect. As stated up there ^^^^ insurance was a bit much for the charger so something like that wont happen for a few years. On the other hand, my Liberty has kept me safe in this "snowpocalypse". Too bad the cops are attracted to it. Dont ask me why, but they think its fast because of the hood decal. Its not helping with the tickets. I have a court date coming up for one :/ |

Before the Libby, I had an '05 Nissan 350Z Roadster, and an '04 VW Jetta for the winter driving, but I decided against paying out the rear for insurance on a car that had extremely limited uses, so I sold both of them. Other cars I considered were the Nissan Frontier 4dr, xTerra, and Grand Cherokee, but the stealership that I bought the Libby at was basically on its hand and knees to get me to buy it, so I went with them. |

my only two other options were the commander or the wrangler. the wrangler wasnt the ride i was going for now the look, and the commander had the option for the 5.7 hemi, now that would have been my choice, except gas was at almost 5 bucks a gallon when i bought my truck, and although i could have afforded the commander, i could not afford the gas for it especially seeing as how it would be my daily driver. All in all im happy with my choice. i get good mpg, and my libby is turning out to be a decent trail rig, the ride it nice and when i eventually go for a full spring/coil over lift I'm sure it will be better.... will it ever be a wrangler, no, but it was never intended to be, and if i ever wanted thte libby to be a hardcore trail rig, well i just wouldnt... I'd buy a 1500 dollar XJ, slap in 10 inches of lift and 38's and beat the thing til it dies. Maybe one day when my truck is 15+ years old i will go SFA, but as of now... it suits me fine |

Escape Patriot I picked Jeep is because the Ford dealer didn't want to take both our previous vehicles on trade. The Jeep dealer would. The reason I picked the Liberty over the Patriot was because I had a previous gen Liberty and loved it, and my wife wanted the sky slider because she was trading her TJ. (we didn't need two cars, and we needed something bigger than a TJ and an Accent) 37 months till its paid. (woot) |

Then I found mine shortly there after. I got it at a steal too because the owner had bought it out right cash when he purchased it and since the economy collapsed he was laid off and his wife was too, so I got it cheap |

11 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo- No rebates (at the time), kind of held off on it because it was a 1st run truck, a little to big to take off roading Jeep Wrangler Sport- The ride and lack of towing is what killed it Jeep Liberty Sport- It was perfect Jeep Patroit Sport- The lack of towing and a real 4lo is what killed it. But it was my 3rd pick of a Jeep to begin with Other cars if the Jeep didn't work out Ford Ranger Sport Ford Fusion Sport AWD Subaru STI |

Had an '08 Frontier that I loved driving but the interior was awful (ratlled and was falling apart in about 3 months from new ). It was also way too expensive for me. I'm actually saving about $200+ a month between car payments, insurance and gas. Although if I could put the Frontier engine in the KK that would be great. While I was looking to get rid of the Frontier I drove a GLI that I loved (but would've resulted in probably a few speeding tickets Then went to Jeeps since my girlfriend and I both like them. Couldn't get an Unlimited JK (too much money). Regular JK wasn't big enough. Loved the KK with the Skyslider I drove but it too was too much. Was looking at Cherokees and other used cars and luckily a local dealership was selling a used '08 KK that was the right color and had all the options I was looking for and I was able to negotiate a really good price. I honestly might not have gotten a KK without a skyslider. With the windows open and the roof open it is almost like driving a JK...almost. |

The Chevy dealership i bought it from said it belonged to a manager at the Jeep dealership up the street that went out of business and lost his job. I still cant believe how cheap i got for.

I recently lost my 2004 element when coming home from work and hit ice on the highway and totaled it. It was a great car and looked at getting a new one but this is the last year they are making them. I love the boxy look and thought about the 4 door wrangler but it was too expensive. The liberty had 3000 rebates so that helped. Got a liberty jet sport with sunroof and 430N media center for 1,000 more than best offers on element without any extras. I feel I got a great deal. Enjoying it so far....mpg is def worse |

4Runner - but is was more money, larger, but for sure had lots of power, larger than I wanted. Wrangler Rubicon 4dr - But it was 10k more and max towing weight is 2500k versus the 5000k for the KK (And by the way I don't think this would be a good idea!!) I need something that could tow 3500. I test drove, but not interested in the following: FJ - hard to see lots of blind spots not good when off roading, great power Xterra - did not like anything here Highlander - not a 4x4 |
