depends, I personally have all the skids. The truck was purchased with them and the previous owner bought the additional gas tank skid. Its basically insurance for your vital engine components. If you can't afford to break it, better protection it. Tranny skid, gas tank skid, etc. they're all pretty important. |

When thinking about skids you have to think, how much will that part cost to replace -vs- the price of buying the skid . Any skid you can buy should be what you get, they are cheap insurance. I've seen many wheel KJs without gas tank skids for example, yes they make it through but some have been close enough that even my rear was clinched tight together

honestly, i did greens and easy blues at http://www.rc4x4.org and i didnt hit much. my diff hit most. but i dont have a diff skid. i purchased all the skids. Engine, tranny, t-case and im planning on buying a new gas tank skid bc the one we have is s****y and pointless. but our truck does come with a gas tank skid i think its like 3/16" steel? correct me if im wrong. personally, id suggest getting the t-case, tranny, and front suspension (engine) skids. even if your not doing some hardcore wheeling, its always good to be safe. better safe than sorry...

Skid plates, whether they are from Jeep or aftermarket ones, will give you peace of mind. You know you are protected underneath, so it is one less thing to worry about when you have several things going on at once that all demand your attention. The one time my skid plates were truly tested was on road. Something large was on the road and I was not able to safely get out of its' way. I had no choice but to go over it. The skid plates took the impact with no damage being done to the Jeep or the skid plates and I did not cause an accident swerving in traffic. The person tailgating me got a surprise, but maybe that taught him a lesson about tailgating. The skid plates cost a little more than my accident deductible and you can use them several times over, so they are very cheap insurance. |
