dear lost,
yesterday i went off roading for the first time! i go to school on the top of Skiff Mountain in Kent CT. i've spent time mtn. biking some SERIOUS trails. the other day... on pure whim i took a different course down a dirt road which i handled with ease... Which i have a crappy shot of....
Image

next was a big patch of mud... to which i enthusiastically slid through.--> which i plan to bring friends to record and photograph my Liberty and his FJ cruiser in action.

unfortunately my card was full!!! and i was not able to get pictures of the GNARLY terrain thatt my liberty traversed with ease. i was especially impressed with my jeeps ability and especially how capable my stock 09 Sport was!! however....I plan to go back and document this insane terrain with photo and video for you guys!
i proceeded up this steep and treacherous incline with increasing confidence and speed. i approached a patch of rocks, and i switched into 4wd LOW. and crawled right over them! turning the wheel as i went. about another quarter mile up the mountain. i encountered a patch of snow and ice and dirt... which had been plowed into a seemingly impassible mound.... on the left side was a rock face and on the left was a treacherous ravine....i hit the brake and got out of the car... i had been so enthusiastic about how awesome it was up till that point, we got out and debated whether or not to pursue on wards.... the jeeper in me SCREAMED to reverse and gain momentum to go over it...
but....
i was with my roomate riding shotgun, and no cell service or gps location. without a recovery vehicle
i was "124" hours.... i hadnt told anybody where i was
it was getting dark (no renegade lights yet!)
I had no tow hooks!
there was no where to use a strap if i got stuck
i doubted MY ability!

we determined that if we had a shovel it would be no issue. so in addition to the plethora of tools currently in my jeep. i plan to add and hopefully MOUNT. an Army/survival shovel like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Multi-Purpose-5-i ... B000H3YCX6
or?
http://www.amazon.com/Grip-Tools-55185- ... B003MBPRHU
or?
http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Camp-Army ... B002C0156O

which do you suggest? and what do you think of mounting brackets?

I have the 3rd style in mine -- but remember you get what you pay for. It can be kind of flimsy and everytime I use it I get black spray paint flakes on my hands. I would suggest checking out GLOCK's E-Tool

I've heard it's pretty sturdy and it also has a saw in it in case you need to cut down a branch or something.

I had the middle one and threw it out cause it got rusty and it was so small, i now carry around a full sized shovel which of course works wonders

Ohyeah? where do you keep it? because i cannot really sacrifice that much space in my trunk. maybe a shortened shovel that i mount to the interior?
