Can anyone tell me what this means? The gascap IS fully on and tight, the Jeep ran fine all the way to work this morning, with the warning on, parked, turned off the motor/removed the key, re-checked the gascap, restarted the jeep, warning pops back up again. the 'gascap' message shows where my mileage normally would. Help? Only 1 more month left on Warranty, if I've gotta take her in, at least I've still got a bit of warranty left. |

Buy a new gas cap and install,$12.The rubber sealing rings in gas caps do wearout after 2-4 years and require replacement to have a sealed EVAP system. |

hmm... didn't know that Gascaps were considered an item of regular wear... I've never replaced one myself - though, the Liberty is the vehicle I've owned the longest... 3 years. Before that was 1 and 2 year beater cars... The warning's gone now however, it seems to have cleared itself *shrugs*. Either way, Gascaps are cheap but... are they a "generic" item? Any old gascap will do? I really have no clue, are they all a standard thread/size? or do I need to take a trip to the parts counter next time? |

If you have the factory warranty, let the dealer deal with it. Let them replace your gas cap. When its not the gas cap, let them find the leak and replace the hose. Let them do the work. Happened to me. Good luck. |
