| Post subject: | Any regrets after lifting your KK? |
Hi folks, I am currently in a position where I need to replace my suspension, which brings up the question - lift or no? If I were to lift my KK I would go with the JBA 2.5 standard lift (not the adjustable) or cobble together an OME setup. So, if you have done a mild lift on your Jeep, do you ever regret it? I ask because in the process of searching for information I have come across what sounds like some small annoyances that there are currently no fixes for. ESP problems and the inability to update or flash the computer with the correct tire size (I would want to go 245/75/16) are the ones that concern me. The speedo being off while annoying, would not really matter to me. I'm guessing the fuel consumption probably increases quite a bit more as well. What about tire rub? While talking with JBA I was supplied a data sheet that states 245/75/16 tires will rub with a 2.5" lift, is this true? Most folks around here appear to run this setup, did you have to pound the welds, or was the rubbing not an issue? Other suggestions or insight as far as lifts are concerned? Thanks! |

I'm only lifted 2" w hankook dynapro atm's and have never rubbed. My biggest issue is the esp going off every now and then with the bigger tires. * I do not condone this nor reccomend this* but a solution to kill all esp and abs operation is to pull the J6 fuse, but that is at your own risk. |

Forgot to mention i'm running stock wheels with no spacers. If you have wider offset rims you may rub, but couldnt say for sure. |

Thanks for that info, Atthehelm! I had actually considered disabling the ESP as an option, but ultimately decided against it. So how annoying is the ESP randomly kicking in? I also forgot to mention that I would be running the stock wheels as well if I did up size to the 245/75/16s. Thanks again. |

It was effing annoying for me because it was like every time i made a left hand turn from a stand still, especially if the vehicles rocks side to side. You don't really feel the wheel jerking or anything, it more the noise thats annoying. I posted a thread while back about this and it seems like it happens more to some and less to others. |

245/75R16 will NOT rub with a 2.5" lift. The speedo is only off by a few MPH, not a big deal at all. The ESP kicking in only happens at low speeds, I have learned to ignore it. Regret? Who regrets this?!

i regret going more the 2.5" only because it ended up costing me alot more money and now i have a dedicated trail rig anyway. sometimes i wish i would have stayed with the 2.5" lift and 265/70 tires. now im regeared, locked in the back, winch, sliders custom driveshaft and the list goes on so you can imagine how much i have into it. modding is all part of the fun though. i do wish there was a fix for the tire size and esp though. i just shut off the esp everytime i start it up. |

Thanks for all of the feedback folks! Right now I am leaning toward the lift, just need to think on it a little more. The ESP is the main thing bugging me, but I'm sure I would get used to it, or just turn it off like DirtyKK does. Can't argue with the looks, Marlon_JBT! It makes a huge difference. They really should have offered a mild lift option from the factory. |

What 2.5 was it you fit the 265's on? and what was the offset? This sounds like a set up I might be looking into. |

rock krawler, which is not a 3.5" lift as advertised. 16x8 with 5" of backspacing 265/70/16 and barely had a tid bit of rub on the pinch weld, mostly while reversing i think. |

I really like my lift so far... Went with a JBA spring lift... The ride actuals seems a little better then the original springs... Can the folks that have issues with the ESP explain the issues in some detail? I don't think I have experienced the ESP issue at this point... Whar are the symptons??? The only issue I have is a clunking sound when traveling slow over uneven surface... Has no effect on steering or ride, still troubleshooting the issue...

You can hear the ESP system working at low speeds during turns. That's pretty much it. |

Typically I'll hear it when turning into a drive or parking lot that has an uneven level between the two surfaces. If the bump is enough to create some sway or suspension travel in the KK while turning, then I'll hear and feel the momentary "growl" that is the ESP kicking in. I can't say it happens all the time but there are certain areas in town that I have come to expect it. I just hit the ESP switch before I reach the location to lesson the sensitivity. Most of the time I'm glad its on the Jeep. Every now and then I wish it wasn't. |

LIFT PROBLEM SOLVED Quote: I really like my lift so far... Went with a JBA spring lift... The ride actuals seems a little better then the original springs... The only issue I have is a clunking sound when traveling slow over uneven surface... Has no effect on steering or ride, still troubleshooting the issue... Turns out that the noise was from the lower passenger side sway bar connector link. The bolt was tighten to spec, but the bushing was not properly compressed (must have been this way a long time). The mechanic at NTB used an impact wrench to loosen the bolt (he was worried that the bolt might snap) and eventually it broke loose. Retightened the bolt and the noise was gone. BTW - NTB would not charge me for the repair so I gave the mechanic a generous tip... |
