New to the forum and to this nice loud noise. I have no lift. No rear sway bar. Stock springs and struts. I have read about the issue some have had with aftermarket struts in the rear. They ended up installing washers on either side of the upper strut bushings. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this with the stock suspension? Is it possible to max strut travel with the sway bar removed? Are any other stockers running without a rear sway bar?

Wish I had something to contribute to this forum but it looks like my first post is going to be a problem solving question.

Welcome! :JEEPIN:

you shouldnt need to add washers with the stock shocks. you are possibly maxing out the rear shock without the sway bar on though. as for the clunk... can you tell if its happening under compression or droop? or is it over any bump in the road? the noise is coming from the rear right....

Thanks for the welcome!

The noise is def coming from the rear. I can't tell if it's on compression or extension. Usuall when I hear the clunk I have one rear tire stuffed and the other side is extended. It doesn't seem to matter which side is compressed or extended though. This happened before I upped my tire size too so I dont think its a clearance issue.

Inspect all the bushings on your rear control arms. Could be that they are shifting around a little bit. I wouldn't think they would fail that fast, but wouldnt hurt to look.

LOL, not to laugh at you but I know what is most likely your problem. As I had custom extended sway bar rods made and well it was the same time I had my adjustable rear sway bar installed. I drive off the drive way and turned right and it sounded like my rear end fell off. Now I am 5" up so you not having as much flex as I am getting but my drive shaft was hitting my gas tank rock guard!!!! Maybe your weight tabs are slightly hitting. Hope this helps.

still sounds like the drive shaft hitting the gas tank skid.

I appreciate the replies.

I am going to look over every bushing back there. I'm also going to inspect for marks on the driveshaft and gas tank skid that would indicate contact.

I never would have thought that the driveshaft was hitting something. It makes sense though...hope no damage was done.

Drivshaft and gas tank skid have no marks indicating contact. Everything that has to do with rear suspension is tight. I haven't heard the noise for a bit now. :|

Could it be the spare tire? Just a shot in the dark... Maybe it's not tightened up all the way?

Found it! I went over everything again with a fine tooth comb and noticed a mark on my muffler. I looked at the bolt heads on the universal at the rear of the driveshaft and they all have marks. I flexed my suspension to max and the bolt heads were right next to the mark on the muffler. I guess if I hit something moving it gives enough umph to make contact.

Thanks for all the replies and help. I would have been stuck on bushings if it weren't for some of the comments.

Just remove the muffler... you don't need that part anyway... :D Easy fix!
