Went ahead and gave myself some matte black renegade style flares and bumpers the other day with spray on plastidip i bought from lowes. The badges also fell victim to plastidip. I love this stuff. There is no sanding or priming and it can be peeled off like a sticker without any residue!
Before anyone flames me: I know it wont last forever and yes it will easily get knicked by tree branches on the trail. I did it as a fun project and it cost about $19 so i wont really care when I have to peel it off.

How did you get all the badges off? or did you spray them while they were on the jeep?

Interesting idea..... This process would work nice for some one who may be on the edge of permanently changing their flares...

Update: Its been over two weeks since i did this and been through two snow storms (yes, snow), rain, and one trail. Its holding up like a champ, no fading, cracking, or peeling.

How about now? Still holding up nicely? And I have a few questions if ya don't mind. Did you remove the flares and bumpers or tape the crud out of the libby? Also is the brand name plastidip or is that just your description of it. The only plastic dip I know of is the stuff you use for electrical connections.

It still looks like the day i did it. I took the time to prep it with a lot of tape and paper. When you are ready to peel the tape you must take a razor and lightly and carefully score the edges or it will all peel off when you pull the tape. Plastidip comes in a spray can too, i bought it for like $6 a can at lowes, i got away with using 3 cans but wish i had like 5. Save some for touch ups later down the road. I haven't peeled any off so i don't know if any redisue or stickyness is left behind afterwards.

I like that. Seems like it holds up pretty well too.

Update: I decided i wanted to go back to the shiny stock flares and bumpers. Removal of this stuff is a royal pita! :banghead: :furious: If anyone does this, i suggest using like 6 or 8 cans because the spots that were thinner were impossible to peel off. All the little nooks and crannys wont peel off easily. What i did was peel as much off as i could, then used paint thinner and a rag to gently scrub away the rest of it. It still leaves a sticky residue on the paint even where you can peel it off clean. WD-40 took care of the sticky residue and neither the paint thinner or WD-40 harmed the finish at all. It took 4 hours from start to finish for removal.
