I dont know if this topic has been posted before but whats the best way to clean the engine? I was going to take it up to the car wash and power spray it but have been hearing horror stories about pressure washing. I know not to directly spray the alternator or places that have wires coming out and fuse box but I dont really want to have to take a toothbrush to the engine! lol |

Ask the dealer their method of engine compartment cleaning. Mine does use pressure washers, but they do know what areas to avoid and what kind of pressure to use. Personally, I would just spray it down with a pressure nozzle on a garden hose. Any more pressure than that might damage things. The air box and fuse box are covered. Everything else gets wet when you cross a deep stream. |

You won't hurt anything with a pressure washer. Just pay attention to what you're doing. |

Okay so I'm going to sound dumb here but it's okay because it goes with my looks ![]() You are saying that it is okay to pop your hood, and spray water, maybe a lot of water over the engine department while it is cool and this shouldn't be a problem unless you do something really stupid. |

Yes. I used to run a detail shop I've also been doing this on my personal cars for years. Don't use a water hose though. Honestly (IMO) I think you will get more water than you want if you use a water hose. Use the pressure washer at a car wash but let it cool down before you do so. Don't use more "spray" than you need and no, don't do anything stupid like trying to blast water in a tight spot near anything electrical. It doesn't take much to get it clean. Most things under the hood are designed with a little water in mind to begin with. It'll be fine but since this is the internet and people tend to do stupid things (not saying you will ![]() ![]() |
