So last Thursday as I backed into a street parking space a piece of metal flashing on a storm drain did this to my tire:

Image

No problem (well other than needing to replace my perfectly good tire that only had 8,000 miles on it). I pull out of the spot and begin to jack up the car. Now there isn't a brick or other large stone in sight for miles so I hope I can get it high enough to put on the spare....no luck! I'm guessing because my suspension was decompressed on that side. I ended up having to call roadside assistance to get a proper jack.

My ride is bone stock, any one else have this problem? Are there any portable non-hi boy over the top 4 foot tall jacks out there I could reasonably keep in my Jeep?

I'm thinking this may work as a portable tire changing jack:

http://www.amazon.com/Torin-T82012-Hydr ... sbs_auto_2

I prefer a 3 ton for the home garage but this would easily lift one side for a tire change. My concern is it only lifts to 13 inches. I have to see what full extension is on the stock jack as it was about 3 inches too short.

I put it right behind the tire on the recommended lift point. To go higher I would have had to slide it much deeper under the car and had a hard time getting it to lift it up with the rotating bar being at a near flat angle.

Stock height stock jack should not be an issue
Just use it in the right spot

Another thread that shows I'm not crazy!

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44172&start=0

It shows I put the jack in the right spot and also that others have had to use a car jack to lift the suspension enough to get the tire on when using the stock jack!!!

This jack looks perfect:

http://www.amazon.com/Torin-Scissor-Jac ... to_title_2

I can probably store it in the rear compartment where the old one was and it has a 20" max height. I just measured my stock jack and it is about 16" so this would be just the extra lift I need!

Sooo.... uh this is where you had it?

Every Liberty that I have had, and that totals to 3 (2004, 2006, 2010)... the manual has mentioned this same particular area for front jacking.

Update:

I just went out and tried it.

I'm lifted, but even if I was stock, there's no way this would have worked????

First time I've ever used the jack!

Yup and no luck! Again I think it was because there was a slight downgrade on the right side when the tire blew and riding on the rim didn't allow the suspension to get reset to level.

Good lesson learned. I was next to the BBQ joint we were eating at so my friends went in and started drinking once we determined I needed to call for help and I hung out and waited the 20 minutes until it showed up. Not bad compared to this happening on a stretch of abandoned road in west Texas or something!

I'm pretty sure my stock jack will not work anymore :ROTFL: ,heck a 60" highlift doesn't work and why I carry a 4 ton bottle jack with plenty of scrap 2x4's.
