I wanted my wife to be able to charge and store her phone in the KK. We bought a device on special for $13 - 4-in-1 Auto Transmitter & Hands-free Holder

The poopy stock lighter socket couldn't support the weight of the device so I did what any Jeep owner on here would do. Tinker!

First step I removed the HVAC/Stereo facia/bezel. It's all one piece. I was leary, reading else where on this forum that you just pull it off. You just carefully pick the top of the outer bezel off with you fingers. I then used a plastic Nair hair removed as a prying tool to get the middle section started. After that it was just a matter of carefully pullling and POP, off it came.

I took the Smartphone holder power plug apart and saw that in the power plug there was a nut that attached the unit to the plug. Perfect for attaching to the HVAC/Stereo facia:

I made a pilot hole in the facia from the back and then bored out the hole with a step drill bit

I then installed the unit to the facia with a lock washer:

Here's what it looked like on the front:

I then soldered the power wires up to a fused lead and piggy spliced into the cigarette light power using screw terminal connectors:

And here is the final product:

I've had it going for about a week now. It works ok but it get's a little bit in the way in 5th gear and it doesn't quite hold up the right angle very well and the design could be improved but for now it's fine.
