Defrosting and blown fuses

Hi all,

In an effort to improve the inadequately designed window defogger/defroster on my 2008 KK,
I installed a supplementary heater (sold at Walmart) that plugs into my cigarette lighter socket. I rigged it to heat the corner of the windshield in front of the driver. Each time I've used the supplementary unit, after about three or four minutes I've blown the 20 amp fuse that protects the cigarette lighter circuit, located in the engine bay electrical box. The supplementary heater wiring includes an old style 15 amp fuse in line, but this hasn't been affected. Anybody know if something else is assigned on the circuit, besides the cigarette lighter?

From the manual: the fuse is M7 rated 20 amps yellow. It's assigned to the "Power Outlet No. 2". There's nothing else mentioned.

Not that I'm aware of. My 2008 defrosts fine. As a Buffalo NY native, it's rather important for this feature to work for me. Maybe his driver side vent has a blockage?

Its merely an issue with how the defroster is centered on the dash and essentially blows a V pattern to defrost the front windshield. In this pattern the bottom left and right corners get neglected a bit in real cold/snowy conditions and those corners tend to not defrost as well as a result. That is what the OP is talking about. More of a design flaw that the OP is trying to work around and now has a separate issue.

X2. Mine defrost the same way. In certain conditions, I can loose 1 to 2 inches of viewing area along my a pillar.

Same here. Fortunately, its not that often I have that situation, but it can be irritating when I do.
