So over the past year or so ive noticed an ebb and flow among forums/threads/and members intel regarding many things. Almost like a fad or a flavor of the month, information is thrown at every one and then reneged on a time later.
Id like to at least attempt to put one rumor to rest.
K&N drop in air filter v/s OEM filter.
Variables:
mileage on jeep
travel distance
travel time
speed
route
temperature
weather conditions
fuel station
season blend
equipment in jeep(weight of vic)
Most of the variables i listed i can account for..
Mileage on jeep: JUST changed oil so shouldn't make a huge difference
Travel Distance/Speed/time/route:All four are eliminated by only accounting for the data from the same stretch of highway i travel every day on the way to work. I can account for data on a 35 mile stretch, at the same time, at the same speed (I use my cruise control), same terrain being its a federal highway, and considering its the same route/speed/and distance, it will be a consistent time.
Temp/Weather:I will watch the weather and try and choose the week with the most consistent temp/weather conditions for the testing.
Fuel Station/Season blend:I will only fill up at the same fuel station. I Will use a fuel station that a friend owns and will time the test for when he gets the tanks filled so i know its a semi consistent blend of fuel.
Equipment/Weight:well I wont be gaining any weight any time soon and i wont load any thing other than basics for work in the jeep so as not to affect the over all weight. There is also the gear I have on the jeep now, which will affect the mpg. But being i will be running the test with the exact same equipment the entire time the difference, if there is any, should still be evident or at least noticeable.

I thought of all this while i was on the way home from the gym so im sure i am over looking something..help me refine this a bit before i attempt to put the rumor to bed about air filters.
Cheers
