Hey guys,

I wanted to make a thread about installing bigger tires on a Liberty without doing any lifts. This question comes up a lot, so I figured I'd make a thread about it, with lots of pictures.

Since installing these tires I have driven almost 10,000Km. There has been no rubbing anywhere. I did not have to pound the pinch weld. Any size larger than 245/75r/16 will require a lift.

Also my previous username on this forum was HDET, but I decided to make new one that is the same on all Jeep forums.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Nice looking Jeep you got there! What are you measuring from center of wheel to bottom of fender?

I'll let you know tomorrow night

nope.

I've driven it ~10,000km, and half is highway/city driving, and half of it is driving on rough snowy/muddy trails. And half the time those trails were very rough. So as you can see from the pictures; there hasn't been any rubbing.

And also no rubbing on full turn either. I'm surprised because I've seen people experiencing minor rubbing from tires of this size (I think).

Nice Jeep Jsan, had GY MTR w/Kevlar on my 09 KK no issues, except tpms (changed rims to non stock no tpms). Looks just like my new '12. PSST might want to get some valve stems, keeps the snow out. Dig the liqour store in the background. :5SHOTS:

I also had black rims selected, but tpms's incompatibility with new rims kept me from changing over. and I just lost the valve stem cap last week thanks to a strong gust of wind.

Must of been a HUGE gust of wind to blow the valve caps off. :ROTFL:

I know a few kk owners have changed rims and purchased oem or aftermarket tpms sensors and their tpms worked fine.

You could have the stock wheels powder coated black.

They don't make a steel bumper for the KK so the world may never know ... BUT hypothetically with the added weight of a steel bumper and a winch I'd be willing to bet you would get some minor rubbing.

How badly have the bigger tires thrown off your speedometer?

Has your ABS started activating itself for no reason yet?

tire calc .com... will give you the percent then use the number of miles on OD and multiply by 1+ %

go to http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Image

then get you overall circumference

If you look on the right column above diameter difference you will see the Speedometer difference. Assuming you vehicle is stock ( is programmed for the tire size you bought it with) then that is also the difference your odometer will experience when you add new tires. so according to my pic i have a 5.6% difference. That means if my truck has 0 miles on it, and I drive 100k miles with the larger tires my odometer will only actually register 94400 miles. This is an issue when it comes to doing oil changes and regular maintenance. Now if i Jump my tire size up to a full 33" ( it's int he plans eventually) I have a 10% difference in my speedometer and odometer. which is now a bigger issue.
