I know that most say that the 245/75-16 tire will fit with out any issues...or once the suspension settles you may have to beat the pinch weld.

But, does anyone have any experiance running the 255-70-16 tires on the factory wheel (sport edition 4wd)

Thanks

Been running the 255/70's for awhile now. I haven't had any issues with them with maybe the exception of a minor rub at full steering lock. Don't usually find myself in a situation that I need full lock though. Rather do a 2 point turn and save the stress on the hardware. Wheel well clearance is fine front and rear. I'll add that I also have a mild lift since you didn't include that in your post. Here are some older photos of the 255/70's I have. Hope this helps.

The photos helped a bunch. It looks like at the rocker panel the tires stick out about 1" or so. Am I seeing this correct?

yes, at the lowest part of the panels the tires are slightly exposed, but they (the tires) get completely sheilded by the fender bulge as it flares out over them.

This more recent photo has a little better angle to show the bulge of the flares reaching out over the tops of the tires. The sliders kinda block the view of the lower section by the rocker panels though.

The Jeep is back at the dealer for a leaky Sky Slider (wind & yes, we are chapped).
I'll be happy to post some when we get it back!

Hi smigelskijk!

I wanted to ask you how's your KK running on those tires?

I'm thinking on replacing the stock tires from mine and I'm between the 245/70 and the 255/70 for 16" rims. I haven't figure out which tire I'll settle with because I'm still not set with the size...

Have you had any rubbing issues?

Thanks!

I am the OP of this Question, just thought I would update what I went with in the way of tire choice:

I went with the Hankook ATM in 235-75-16 While looking at tire calculators for comparisions of diamentions, it show only less than 1/2" taller and less than 1/2" wider due to the design of the tire It did place a little over an extra 3/4" tread contact with the road surface. Being a stiffer tire with a strong sidewall much improved the ride and steering feel of the KK. And my adding such a small increase in tire size, there is no concern of rubbing now or in the future with out the cost of adding a lift.
I had gotten to the point where I was thinking about selling the KK due to the ride and handling, I'm glad I popped for the tires first....What a difference a little rubber improvment can make!!!!!

My ride improved about the same when I upgraded from the stock tires to the DuraTracs. I just installed my lift and the handling has gotten even better. I've been quite impressed with the handing now. Feels like a completely different vehicle from when I purchased it.

Do you have some pictures? I'd like to go with a slightly larger tire on my KK and am in the same boat as far as how much bigger I can go and still not rub bone stock.

Are people still pleased with their 255/70r16 choice? Is anyone having problems with this size?
