The stock air box is designed to give the 3.7 all the air it needs.
Now if you have different cams, headers, exhaust , computer internally reflashed then it maybe able to use more air.
Without those things being done, would not be any benefit really
Yes, "The stock air box is designed to give the 3.7 all the air it
needs.".
It's not about "more air", its about air flow path and resistance. The stock air intake system is not designed with the best, least resistant airflow path.
So I choose to differ with your opinion.
It's all about internal aerodynamics.
Less turns in the tubes and smoother tubes = less turbulence, less turbulence = less resistance, less resistance = smoother air flow. Smoother air flow means the engine uses less energy to suck in the air it needs. This means there is more power to the wheels.
More open, smooth, and direct paths to the air box and throttle body = less resistance, thus more power.
This is a proven fact. And it's a matter of common sense.
CJD even realized part of their error and eliminated the 3.7 "Baffle" they added in 07 and changed it back to just a tube from the air-box to the TB like in some of the earlier years. But they kept the "accordion" section connecting the tube to the air box...
Will it give you 50 more horse power? NO.
But the way I see it, because this engine is under-powered for the weight of the rig(IMO), every little bit helps.
Add a freer flowing muffler, and you get a little more as well.
