I just got a 09 liberty ltd. I have been a ford truck guy all my adult life.

I chose the Lib for an easy transition to do more with my kayak and camping in general.

I read all kinds of stuff about the vehicle. I did get an ext warranty just to be sure I will be covered if any of the smack was true.

What mods should a new owner do to ease into modding?

Welcome. The Liberty is a pretty capable vehicle stock. If you are not looking to lift the jeep, then I'd be looking at upgrading the tires to AT's and a set of skid plates if you haven't done so already. The are a number of us who like to kayak/canoe so some roof cross rails will be helpful. If you are paddling solo and your boat is less than 10 feet, then you can fold the front passenger seat down and fit the kayak inside. I do this with a 9.5' kayak. Front tow hook. Some of us have 2 hooks on the front. Hitch reciever in rear. If you are looking for some lift, then I'd do that first before getting the new shoes. I use mine for the same things you mention; getting me to a trail head for some backpack camping with my son's Boyscout troop or towing a 3000lbs camper to an established park system campground. It doesn't do any one thing spectacularly, but it does do a lot of things nicely. (except fuel milage) :ROTFL: It has its quirks like everything else, but its a good all round vehicle.

Whats needed is to plan a lost canoe - kayak weekend.
If you need crossbars check out the homemade ones on this site.

The Grabber hts has a fairly high rating according to tirerack.com which is a great place to start when looking to compare tire brands and types. The hts is a highway all season radial with good wet/dry performance. Give tirerack.com a look see. The Liberty typically comes stock with 225/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler ST's which some on here replaced at first opportunity. Myself included on that one. Wet traction was less than desirable. Keep the questions coming. I'm sure someone else will chime in with their :2cents:

Op has a Limited, no need for tint...unless you want darker

I was actually thinking of having my tint redone just so I can go darker, starting to not like that "fishbowl look" as I believe John says it, whenever my interior lights go on.
