I am looking to make some fuel economy upgrades prior to my lift and tires, so far i have decided to get a cold air intake, new exhaust, and would like to get a chip. Problem is i have never dealt with a performance chip before and have done some research. I know some chips come programmed and some u need to program after install. Im fine with a pre-programmed chip, the one i have found is sold by autochipsdirect.com and is the only chip they offer for my year and model. Im open to any ideas and recommendations, the more options the better. :D Thanks guys :!:

all the so called chips are a waste of money. the only thing that might help is the B&G reflash.

Your not going to help too much with MPG with these trucks. A cold air intake and exhaust won't help because your always going to want to hear it growl which will mean less MPG when you get on it. I don't think anyone has every bought a chip from that site you listed but A LOT of us, me included, have bought the JET Chips. http://www.jetchip.com/ The best thing about the JET chip is the shift points are more crisp. You'll notice a little more get up and go with the Stage 2 but they are recommend premium gas to run that chip so there goes price saving at the pump. It's a loosing battle when trying to get more MPG from these truck.

Im pretty sure i found the B&G re-flash you mentioned, do u currently have it installed? One of the alterations the flash does is "torque management removal"... do u know what that means?

To my knowledge JET is the only big company that offers a vehicle specific chip for the truck.

Torque management refers to the transmission and the automatic limiting of power. I know there are few KJ owners with the B&G flash, not sure about KK owners. I will be sending out my computer next week to B&G for the flash. My truck is going in the shop for other work so it won't be on the road anyways. I'll let you know how it goes once I get it back from B&G.

+1 on that.

i recently got a Jet stage 2 chip off a board member and have put about 2k miles through it. I have noticed a easier shift and a noticable increase of pick up when accelerating into traffic. I am still using regular gas though, so im sure i could get more. As long as you dont drive like a jerk it helps MPG a LITTLE..i went from averaging 16.2-16.7ish..not alot and absolutly not worth the increase in cost.

Entertaining though. :SOMBRERO:

what would be the best way to calculate ur mpg. I attempted to do some simple math simply by driving through a quarter tank and multiplying those miles by 4 then dividing the size of the fuel tank (19.5). Im hoping I'm did something wrong because my outcome was like 11.8 mpg. i don't have a lift and haven't done any real mods aside from a little weight like the sliders and the rack. just got the oil changed, my air filter i clean pretty periodically, tire pressures are good, and I'm not much of a heavy footer... any ideas?

Or set your trip odometer to zero at your next fill up. At the fill up after that, divide the miles driven by the number of gallons you put in. That way, there is no guessing about how many gallons you used.

Worked for me. I've had it a year and the power difference is def. Noticeable. Economy is roughly 2 MPG. My city sucks but my highway is 17.8 ave.
I also picked up a flowbastard.

have a hypertech max energy tune on my KK. Noticeable power, decent increase in MPG. Definite increase in MPG when towing. Hypertech max energy 52001 is the part #, ordered from amazon with free next day shipping for $315 to my door. I've had it on the truck for about 6 months now, still love it. I also have intake and exhaust.

My wife has a '10 KK and she says, and I quote, "It can't even get out of it's own way." I never thought that I'd ever hear her say that. I think it's fine, however. Just have to be patient with it. The 3.7 has the same power as the old 5.2 that was in my Dakota! Anyhoo...with the wife's critique in mind, I've been reading all of these threads on performance calibrations with much interest. If anyone has any updates, please post! I'd like to get her a little something for her birthday that's easily reversible (for obvious reasons) and quick to install so she doesn't catch me doing it!

hypertech tune plugs into the OBD-II to load the tune, once it's done, there is nothing physical on the vehicle. Doubt she would check, but i know the JET chip stays under the hood and is fairly visible. FWIW

I think he's more concerned about warranty issues over the wife seeing a tune on the truck. I can't really help with this, I know little to nothing about cpu tunes and flashing the cpu.

Hypertech tune can be removed just as easily as it is installed. I typically used to remove the tune before going in for warranty work. My warranty is out, however
