I went to tow a U-Haul trailer today but ended up renting a truck instead because the trailer wiring that the PO installed was jacked up. I am wondering what your thoughts are about fixing the following: The physical hitch setup appears to be Mopar, and the 2 inch receiver has a rubber "Jeep" cover. The wiring appears not to be OEM, though. It is a 4-pin adaptor, not the circular 7 pin setup that is on most jeeps I've seen. The wiring harnesses I found inside the jack storage area on the left side of the trunk are not well put-together, and there is even a black wire that hangs down and doesn't connect to anything. When I hooked up the trailer, the trailer tail lights were on all the time, except they go off when I hit the brake. Sooo... Do I try and untangle the mess and wire the 4-pin up correctly, or should I order the MOPAR 7-pin wiring kit and do the job right? What would you do, those of you who pull stuff? I don't have a trailer yet, but am thinking of getting a pop-up camper someday. Thanks for your ![]() --LFH |

If you think you'll need the 7 pin, then go buy the mopar harness. If you're just occasionaly pulling small trailers that only require a 4 pin, then i would remove the old one and try to straighten it out. There isn't much to them. Buy a $3 12v circuit tester i to figure what pins in the tail light socket are which if you need to. The reason i would salvag the old one is because the mopar harness is $$$$. |

I fixed the 4-way wiring harness today. It is a MOPAR harness but probably not installed at the factory. I found an unconnected ground wire, and after I hooked it back up all the trailer lights work perfectly. |
