Post subject:  Scangauge II install

Hi all,

I am thinking of permanently mounting my Scangauge II somewhere in the dash. There's not a ton of free space on the dash to work with, but ideally I would like to have it flush with the surface of the dash so it looks stock. Then the cable can be tucked out of the way behind the dashboard.

Has anyone tried this or have any suggestions of where to mount it?

I was thinking of installing my Scangauge in back of the cubby above the radio and heater ducts (see Digger's post about center console removal and scroll down to the third picture to see what I mean-- his jackknife and Sirius radio are in that space: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=36253). For those brave souls who have taken apart their dashboards (Digger et al.), is there any usable space behind that cubby to sink switches or a Scangauge so that they're flush with the back of the cubby? If there's no space back there, I'd like to know that before I tear into the dash.

Thanks for helping me out!

I made a switch mount for the the dash bezel, made out of pressed metal. It has 5 switches, and the UHF Hadset bracket.

Digger, thanks for your very quick reply! :D Do you have trouble seeing your odometer with the SG2 where it is? The bank of switches that btaylor218 made for the center dash is really awesome! His panel looks so good it could be stock. I wonder where he keeps his sunglasses and iPod now, though.

No issues at all :P

IIRC, there was someone as well that mounted theirs above their rear view mirror.

Pics tomorrow.

Mine is sitting like Diggerfreek has his shown. It does not block any information from the dash. Makes for an easy installation that can be removed in about a minute. Plus it is not in any direct sunlight, and is somewhat in a shaded spot...Scangauge does mention not mounting in direct sunlight where solar heat could be a problem.

I just installed the Scangauge the location Diggerfreek has his, using Velcro. It's a nice clean install. I chose to do it that way rather than to get a fancy permanent bracket because I live in an area where people sometimes break into cars to steal stuff. I like to have the option of unplugging it and taking it with me. Thanks for the ideas, everyone! :D
