Post subject:  Front Diff Locker options?

Anyone know what our locker options are for the front diff and has anyone tried one? Is it still a D30A like the KJ?

Iirc it is a d30a. An Aussie locker is a good cheaper option. I have one in my tj and I love it

Well there have been a lot of people using detroits and the lunch box lockers like the Aussie. There have also been a lot of Diffs explode from the sudden locking of those style I can think of 2 very good examples yellowcoyote and cobolt06.

Then upgrade to the steel diff or go sfa and you won't have that problem. The d30a sucks in general. Who ever's bright idea it was to put an aluminium diff in a jeep is stupid.

The KK actaully has a d30m. It's stronger than the d30a.

I dont believe it will. And command trac is t-case, nothing to do with the diffs

Eaton makes and E-Locker for the D30 in a KJ I thought they had fit issues with the front cover and collar. If it were me I would do perment lockers up front only ARB or Eaton no need to take chances on the new differential strength.

KK and KJ front diffs are different!

KK AND JK have the same diff. the JK is a solid axle of course. anything that fits in the JK should fit the KK. however i recall an issue that boblemoche had installing an ARB in the front of his. i believe he had to machine a spacer or something. the cv axle shafts go in too far and wouldnt come out. he had to disassemble the ARB to get the axles out. in order to disassemble the ARB it would have to be removed from the diff. luckily he test fit it with the locker outside the diff and found this issue.

You have tons of options for the rear from $300 to $1000. From full on/off locker with a switch to mechanical or ratchet.

If your back is not already locked it would be my suggestion not to lock the front until you have a locker in the back. If you do lock the front do a selectable locker like the Eaton E Locker or ARB or do a Tru Track limited slip. You can't control the lock up on the "lunchbox" or automatic lockers and you might find that you will have steering issues especially if it is slippery. Remember that automatic lockers are locked and unlock when you go around corners not the other way around.

I have had no issues and did not have fitment problems with my front E locker. I did the Detroit soft locker in the back and the Eaton ELocker in the front at the same time. Knowing what I know today, and if I were to do it over again, I would not even bother with the front locker.

Yeah stay far away from a auto locker for the front,no matter how much stronger the D30M is compared to the D30A it's still aluminum.Might be nice to steer on the trail also.

Just stick to the selectable lockers or the Detriot True Trac(LSD) for the front.
