Hi, I have until very recently loved my KK. Now, however, every time I brake and come to a full stop, I wonder whether it's going to be in gear ready for me to take off again. Sometimes it revs its little heart out while the transmission spins in neutral and then after 3 or 4 secs it clunks into 1st and away I go. So, a question for the Brains Trust is: has anyone heard of a similar issue and how it was resolved. My Jeep dealer seems to be confused Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

I don't have a solution for you but I have had a similar problem. I cant reproduce it so the dealer has never done anything about it. Mine only does it when cold and mainly only when in reverse. Usually I can stick it in neutral and then shift back to reverse to get it to respond or sometimes just waiting a short bit. It has done it in drive before but not as often and again only when it was cold. |

Just had a thought, does this happen when on hills by chance, even if they don't seem that steep? Some people who aren't used to the hill start assist will get a little frustrated with it. I know I was at first. In the 08's the tolerance was pretty low for the angle of the hill. I believe they reprogrammed it in 09 or 10 so that the angle it activates at is greater. It will feel like the transmission is slipping and your revs will go up to where the computer thinks you're generating enough power to move forward, then it will clunk into gear. |

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I have 30,000km on the clock (my commute to work is very short), so around 19000 miles, which in anyone's books is not very much! It's been serviced every 6 months since I bought it new 3 years ago. Now that you mention it, the issue usually occurs on very shallow inclines. It does not feel like HSA though, as the brakes aren't on. I did have that thought previously... Maybe I'll try to disable it to see if there's any difference. So, in summary: Jeep is warm Driving under throttle at around 50kph(30mph) in Drive Apply brakes and come to full stop on very shallow incline Apply throttle to take off Transmission spins freely in neutral Brakes aren't on as you would expect with HSA Transmission clunks into 1st after 4/5 secs and away we go Intermittent issue which I've been unable to find a pattern for and unable to demonstrate to Jeep. Thanks for any help. |

Are you the original owner? |

What was the error code they got? There was a KA owner who had the same type of issue. It was intermittent. He got the code P0760 "Shift Solenoid C" which is the OD solenoid. After almost a year long fight with the dealer, who did everything but change the solenoid pack, on his dime because he was out of warranty, he also started having issues when stopped. OD was working OK most of the time, but his 1st was now slipping. He finally went to an independent A/T specialist and had the solenoid pack replaced. Ran great till he was T-boned by another car. |

Hi, yep I'm the original owner. The only error code was p1790. I have no issues with OD or changing into any other gears. |

ozkk08 wrote: Hi, yep I'm the original owner. The only error code was p1790. I have no issues with OD or changing into any other gears. This DTC is not stored alone. It is stored if a Gear Ratio DTC is detected immediately after shift. The existence of DTC P1790 indicates a mechanical or hydraulic (not electrical) related problems. It should be noted, however, that all mechanical problems don't necessarily result in DTC P1790. When this DTC exists, diagnosing the system should be based on the associated DTC and only mechanical causes should be considered. Strange that it was stored by itself... |

That's exactly what the Jeep workshop foreman said... Normally there's an associated code which guides them where to look for the problem. |

Did they check the gearshift linkage adjustment? Did they check the transmission fluid level? Did they perform the 1st gear clutch test with the scan tool? Did they test the speed sensors? Did they run the "transmission simulator" to see if they could duplicate it? One last thing. Did they check the event data for possible conditions which may cause this to happen? |
