I'm getting that awful squeak that means I need to change my brakes. I was looking for some pads online, and found these. They seemed like a good price for ceramic pads. Anyone have any other pads to recommend that wont break my wallet?

I've been really busy with school n work so I was going to have a a shop change my brake pads. So I talked to a guy for a quote on changing just the pads and he said $450, which I thought was insane. He also said, "Tyically with those cars you have to change both the brakes and rotors together. Thats $905.00". Obviously I'm not going there to get my brakes done, but is that true about changing brakes and rotors the same time, my brakes have only been squeaking on and off for maybe 2 weeks. Either way I found a nice rotor n brake kit for $400

Wow, I'm not a mechanic, but it sounds to me like he was trying to rip you off by selling you new rotors along with the pads. Rotors can usually be resurfaced and, unless they are crazy rusted (from non-use or old age) or warped (causing brake pedal shimmy when you're stopping), the rotors will outlast the pads and can be reused through several brake jobs. I'm guessing you have a pretty new KK, and this is your first time replacing brake components?

Check your pads before you change them too. Mine were squeaking something fierce a few months ago but when u actually measured them they still have about 80% of the material left. Squeaking lasted about a month and then stopped.

yes if pads a uneven they will give a similar to low squeak. best remedy is to drive in empty parking lot and then hard quick brake to shave a little off and even it back out. dont waste your money with stealership brakes are easy and rotors do last a long time. most places will resurface rotors for cheap.

Personally I always replace the rotors when I replace the brake pads. That way you start fresh with the rotor being at it's thickest.Thicker means more heat disapation and less likely to warp when pushed hard. That's just me though as I'm very hard on brakes.Granted I can get both front rotors and pad set(highest quiality set for my axle) for $225 shipped but the rears are a custom rotors but still a pair of rear rotors and quiality pads(semi-metalic,to heavy for ceramics) runs only $200.

Each vehicle has specs to how thin a rotor can be turned, most have a "machine to" and "discard" spec.By law a shop can not turn a rotor that will end up below a "machine to" or "discard" spec. Some vehicles use "one time use only" rotors and must be replaced everytime you need pads, and it's more common then you think on more and more vehicles.

 950

Out here, Rotors are 45 bucks a piece and life time pad sets are either 38 bucks or 42 bucks from auto zone.

Your looking at $300 when every thing is said and done for parts. As far as labor, you out about 2 hours if you take your time.

A month or so ago, I changed the front rotors and pads in 25 minutes using just a floor jack.....

PM me if you want a how to....

I know how to change brake pads. I've never changed rotors though. I'm gonna check how much is left on the pads tomorrow. I just figured I've got almost 40k miles on and I bought it at 19k so I figured they haven't been changed since before I bought my KK. I have no wobble or vibration or anything, just the squeak. I'll stop by advanced auto parts n autozone tomorrow.

Stay away from autozones duralast pads(neverlast as there more known as) and advances wearever pads suck just as bad.Advances wagner thermoqueits are more commonly known as thermosqueaks.

A better choice of pads are Napa's Adaptive Ones or there Premuim line of pads,Centric Premuim pads/rotors are also very good, there value line is okay.

Last February I did my brakes. I went with Raybestos pads and rotors. They have better stopping power than the OEM. Ceramic fronts and semi metallic rears. There was a $15 rebate per axle set and I think $25 per rotor. so it was a good deal.
I had 50k on the brakes, and over 60% left in the front compared to the pads I installed. The rears were getting down there maybe 10k left or so.
So far I like them and would recommend them

Dave

A girl I work with husbands a jeep mechanic. I had the same problem with the squeak, he looked at them on the side and said mine were new. The quality of the pad is the problem.
