Hello All,

I now have 1 Jeep and 1 Ion both have Cabin Airfilters.

The Jeeps just turned 24K miles, so I replaced the Cabin Airfilter.
The Ion just turned 100K miles and I for the first time replaced the cabin Airfilter.

I learned that after 100K mile of stuff plugging up that filter, we lost 40% of our airflow in the car...

It also did not look much worse than the Jeep's....

So preplace them often.... Do not wait 100K miles trust me on this...

Mine didn't come with a cabin air filter. Do I still need to clean this out after a certain amount of time or does that just mean I'm getting dirt blown into the interior? :-)r

just replaced mine at 28k miles and they were black. Now the air flow is a lot stronger. Don't wait you can notice the difference right away. Only takes a min to chech how they look. Buy online not at the dealer as they are double the coins there.

For those who are new to this, like my self.

The parts can be order online from many places. find the cheapest or the one you like the most.
The pack comes with 2 filters... For a good reason.

Note.. You need to use both.. the second one is behind the first one and not easy to see or get out...
Jeep you are a fail on this... Why not just make 1 large one??

Sometimes I wonder who gets these type of things approved..
I would go into a huge rant, but there is no point...

We have a cabin air filter?

This explains a lot. I was wondering why airflow in my vents wasn't as powerful as it used to be. I'll have to check it out.

If you are really sure you do not have filters then there is nothing to clean.
But I would make sure your outside vents are clear.

These are the vents under the windshield and hood...

I forgot about mine and first changed them on my 08 after 2 years. They were filthy, I now change them once a year. Been ordering them from Rock (just the cheap ones).

Wow, That's a seriously involved mod! I have thought for a while now about adding the air filter because my wife has some bad allergies. After seeing how gross these used filters can get, I think, "We're breathing this!!?" Yuck. But as attractive as retrofitting the Jeep seems, the 27 step process outlined in the post above is pretty daunting (even though the level of detail is amazing and the instructions extremely well done). I'd love to hear from anyone who went through with retrofitting their KK with a new air filter. Is it as much of a PITB as it looks? Are you glad you did it? Would you do it again?

Today I went ahead and installed the upgraded cabin air filter housing using MtnLuvr's very detailed instructions. His post is right on the money! Very easy to follow, and no surprises. The whole job took me an afternoon (about 5 hours), including a trip to the hardware store in the beginning. All of the equipment he lists, you'll need! I know someone will say, "Pics or it didn't happen!" so here you go:
The new filters as seen through the hood cowl:
