I have a 2008 liberty and as far as I know it does NOT have the towing package. I just bought the uhaul hitch and will be installing myself. My question is regarding the wiring harness for when I need to install that as well.

Does the liberty have wires tucked up somewhere in the rear of the vehicle that are used specifically for attaching a wiring harness or will I need to splice into the brake lines and provide power from the battery on my own...?

The factory wire harness has connectors for the tail lights. It basically gets wired to the tail lights using the existing connections.

Here are a couple of links that you might find useful.

Directions for installing the 7 pin Mopar harness:

If you plan to wheel your jeep then you may want to consider installing a mopar hitch. All of the aftermarket ones sit about 3" lower, taking away from your departure angle. Mine was only 20 or 30 dollars more but well worth it. :2cents:

Yea I know about the differences between the mopar hitches and aftermarket ones but I wont be taking the jeep anywhere more adventurous than a curb or back yard so the lower hitch doesn't matter to me. I actually like ones that stick out farther because I'll get to destroy the front end of the idiot who rear ends me one day =)

They don't stick out further, they sit lower.
MOPAR tucks up cleaner lines.
And I almost aways have a drop hitch in my receiver to make people back off. But I read that in MI a bill has been purposed to make it illegal to have one in when not towing. Stupid Law makers! :(
